Too complicated for me, but I wonder if the arguments are actually over the relevant things, or about what they are presented as being about.

Declaring somewhere a penis-free zone seems straightforward and to solve at least one aspect of worry.

Offering cervical smears to anyone with a cervix, and nobody without, seems easy.

Designing toilet facilities probably isn't a supreme court job.
Deciding on a legal definition probably isn't a job for the OED editors.

@midgephoto @anarchic_teapot what's the legal definition of man?
None of these weirdos are obsessing over trans men.
It's a problem of ignorance, discrimination, hate and misogyny, not biology or linguistics.

@noodlemaz
The OED digs into it the definition or derivation of the word a long way.
I get from a short look at it that man is more generic, as of our species, but implies male, whatever that is taken to be. (Not in the OED: here men from the planet Earth first set foot" doesn't declare the astronauts were not women.)
Woman, OED, is a man in the most general sense, restricted to meaning a person of the female sex, again, whatever that means.

The authors don't actually _say_ "It's complicated".

@noodlemaz So far as legal definitions go, parliament legislates, and the Supreme Court is where disagreements about the meaning of interpretation of that law can rise to. And perhaps to the ECHR which would wonderfully aerate some people.

Me: it may settle down one day, but is being taken seriously. Above my pay grade and no longer causes me trouble since I'm retired.

It has attracted some extraordinary nastiness.

@midgephoto yes the sexist origins of language and dictionary definitions don't often get us far. Philosophy has done much work on this, but again the people like those in the photo and pushing for such action don't care or know about any of that.

@midgephoto "Declaring somewhere a penis-free zone"

Yeah, because that absolutely wouldn't be a mandate for public genital inspections.

My mentions are a dick-free zone.

It is about whether EA2010, which does not specify, assumes GRA, which it clearly does, or somehow trumps it by not specifying.
