The first thing I noticed when I looked at Goodreads - and Bookwyrm, and LibraryThing, and Rotten Tomatoes - is the five-star rating system.
When I created the Red Guide to Temp Agencies in 1994, I decided that the reviews would not be quantitative, because different people expect different things from temp agencies.
A five-star review from someone I've never met means nothing to me. Why do people keep building systems that just average individual subjective ratings?
