As I fill in one form after the other just to be able to give a keynote for a workshop at #COLING2025, I'm already looking forward to provide feedback to #ACL: 3 weeks before the conference they realize that speakers need to apply for a permit and processing takes at least 2 weeks, yeah!

Additionally, I just sent a copy of my passport + all information it shows as plain text via an unencrypted shitty web form. LOL

After a break, I'm #reviewing for #ARR again this cycle, and I'm deeply concerned. Some reviews, especially the summaries, sound AI-written.
One paper shows such a complete failure to grasp basic linguistic concepts (think, the term "semantics") to be unsalvageable, and apparently has been resubmitted from a previous cycle with new reviewers (what a waste of time). But another reviewer also didn't notice! Undergraduate level stuff! #nlproc #acl

I don't think #ACM's response is convincing, though:
1. Please, spend those funds for what they are intended for.
2. The response still seems to assume the digital library needs to make a profit: It does not.
3. The peer organizations mentioned indeed have the exact same problem! Other peer organizations, such as the Association for Computational Linguistics #ACL do manage to run an open access library without a profit motive.
