I just spoke with a #US #Senator office about the #fediverse . They're asking for more information to help spread around #Capital #Hill in small bite sized easy to understand pieces. I'm obviously going to give them @elena beautiful #movie on the #fedi (with some light editing which she's agreed to).

I'll of course show them https://fediverse.info/ and https://fedi.tips/ which are great websites. I figured I'd give them examples of amazing #AP projects such as #mastodon , #pixelfed , #peertube , #bandwagon , and #bonfire ; even things like @admin .

I'd love to know from folks any EASY to understand projects that best encompass the Fediverse and explanations of it.

What are some projects you'd hand to your friends and family that would explain and display to them what we are?

I'll say this isn't going to happen over night. There's lot of questions around regulations, trust & safety, etc. But I feel it's pertinent to at least get the conversation going, especially considering the current state of disdain for big social media and the impending legislation around these things.

I'll finally state if there's anyone in this list that does NOT want to be involved with this, that's totally fine and I understand and I can exclude you from the materials I give to them.

The sailing boat Madleen – operated by activist group #FreedomFlotillaCoalition — departed from the Sicilian port of Catania, in southern Italy.

It will try to reach the shores of the Gaza Strip in an effort to bring in some aid and raise “international awareness” over the ongoing humanitarian crisis, the activists said at a press conference on Sunday, ahead of departure."

"The AP Stylebook is considered “the foremost arbiter of grammar and word choice” for serious news and opinion writers, and it has sold more than 2.5 million copies since it was first published in 1953. It’s a basic resource in college journalism and editing courses, too, where students can be docked points on their assignments for failing to follow its guidelines. The Associated Press, of course, denies that it’s a political institution. Like many professional organizations, it claims that its decisions are “factual and nonpartisan” and that its Stylebook “doesn’t align with any particular agenda.” But we should always be wary of people and groups who loudly proclaim themselves neutral—because they rarely are. Instead, they usually have unspoken biases and ideologies that shape their work, whether the people involved realize it or not. The Associated Press is no different. When we dig into the latest edition of the Stylebook, we can find all kinds of material that expresses a political viewpoint—or suppresses one. From the environment, to immigration, to policing, to Palestine, the AP Stylebook serves to reinforce the status quo and prevent writers from telling the truth about today’s most important issues."

I wonder if #Reuters is worth subscribing to. #AP asks for donations but doesn’t require payment to see any of its content (I donate anyway.) But Reuters has a paywall for a fair amount of its content. I haven’t developed an opinion yet about Reuters, but neither have I seen any of the shenanigans that led me to cancel my NYT subscription (years ago, when they first helped Trump win the White House) and the Washington Post (this year, for obvious reasons). Does anyone on here subscribe to Reuters? BTW, they are asking for ¥600 per month, which seems pretty reasonable.
