Daniel Carkner🥀<p>For those who aren't familiar with this niche service <a href="https://historians.social/tags/AccessText" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AccessText</span></a>, it was (?) an agreement that publishers had with accessible ebook libraries to upload PDF or EPUB version of their commercially published books into a centralized repository where those of us who are trying to remediate accessible versions of books could request them and share them with our clients. We may still be able to reach out to individual publishers but it's a big loss in terms of having a fast and centralized service.</p>
Daniel Carkner🥀<p>WTF? Has anyone else who works in accessible alternate formats got an email that <a href="https://historians.social/tags/AccessText" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AccessText</span></a> is being closed down? Could not find anything about it online, even the ATN site accesstext.org is down for me.</p><p>"Unfortunately, Georgia Tech has been unable to negotiate an agreement to continue operating the AccessText Network (ATN). Specific questions regarding ATN should be directed to the Association of American Publishers (AAP)."<br>🤦‍♂️ 💻 <br><a href="https://historians.social/tags/accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>accessibility</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/a11y" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>a11y</span></a> <a href="https://historians.social/tags/AlternateFormats" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AlternateFormats</span></a></p>
