Re: The tornado path in #StLouis Missouri so-called USA. #STL is a very racially segregated city, due to the history of chattel slavery during and post-Indigenous genocide and westward expansion of the settler state. These neighborhoods that the tornado hit are mostly Black and very materially neglected and deprived by the systems that exist. The area is largely out of internet access now, as well.

All that to say. These communities are in a lot of need right now. People are missing, hurt, and without shelter and food. Here are some opportunities for #directaid:

There's a lot of excellent #advice going around about how to start getting involved in #DirectAction. I'm also thinking about how to keep the #momentum going once we've started, and #build upon what we're doing.

If you've read a #radical book, you can summarize it in a more #accessible format like a #zine, and share what you learned.

If you've planted a #VictoryGarden, you can share what you've grown with your #local #MutualAid network.

i am a total shitposter. i work in infosec (blue team), but don't follow me for good infosec information. just don't.

i like weird people... the communists and anarchists. the black sheep. the loners, outcasts, wallflowers, bizarros, rejects, outsiders, odd ducks, and the eccentric ones.

the broken. the lost. the lonely. the people who look in the mirror and can't see a beautiful person looking back.

the freaks, geeks, weirdos, goths, emos, punks, lovers with aching hearts, poets who don't know it, the elder gods/goddesses/others/cubes, nerds who love assembly, nerds who love obscure CSS, people who used to be carnies, people who want to be carnies, clown school dropouts, quiet librarians, midnight philosophers, chaotic good bartenders, D&D forever-DMs, speedrunners of life, cursed doll collectors, people who unironically love dial-up sounds, cassette tape hoarders, writers of unsent letters, DIY necromancers, time travelers stuck in the wrong timeline, indie game devs with imposter syndrome, hopeless romantics with a cynical streak, travelers of the astral plane, meme historians, collectors of lost media, aesthetic hoarders, souls lost in liminal spaces, thrift store treasure hunters, broken synthesizer enthusiasts, conspiracy theorists who know too much, introverts who overshare online, VHS romantics, late-night train station wanderers, noise music aficionados, digital ghost hunters, hopeless maximalists, cursed artifact restorers, wandering bards, and rogue rouge enthusiasts (people who dabble in makeup with chaotic flair, applying blush with the reckless abandon of a true artist).

And not least, the people who never quite fit in anywhere, but somehow fit in everywhere.

...you know, my people. 🖤

i'm looking for people that are cool with sharing misery most of the time, but do rarely dabble in the dark art of being fun. follow me if that's the case, or you know, don't.

you do you.

i do usually follow active accounts back, but if you don't post original posts... i don't typically follow. give me content plz.

a huge portion why capitalism wastes so many resources is because it is about maximizing measurable values. No amount of something you can't measure directly matters, either it makes a line go up or it doesn't. It doesn't matter how much you help "office culture" or help keep other workers from being sick, even if it makes profit go up later. Everything that you can't measure has to be sacrificed to increase things that can be by any small amount. All that matters is how much you individually sell, how much you get on those standardized tests.

This is true for every hierarchical system, and is the basis of hierarchy in the first place. Hierarchy is about uninvolved distant people making decisions using only the information that can be brought to them, so it will always lead back to this

Big companies including SpaceX, Starbucks and Trader Joe's are attempting to undermine the National Labor Relations Board (which protects workers' rights) via the courts. Effort is supported by the Federalist Society. Now, Trader Joe's argues that the NLRB is "unconstitutional". theguardian.com/us-news/2024/j

it's interesting to see how some anarcho-communists treat Elinor #Ostrom's work on #commons management. it seems for them, resricting access to ressources is suddenly obviously the right thing to do, and everything else is just a vicious strawman.

yet, restricting access to ressources unless you give/do something for it is this awful thing and completely unnecessary.

i wonder how they may justify this…

Today in Labor History August 28, 1921: The Soviet Red Army dissolved the stateless Anarchist Free Territory, after driving the Black Army out of Ukraine. The anarchist rebel leader, Nester Makhno, barely escaped, and with serious injuries.

The Free Territory within Ukraine, also known as Makhnovia (after Nestor Makhno), lasted from 1918 to 1921. It was a stateless, anarchist society that was defended by Makhno’s Revolutionary Insurrectionary Army (AKA the Black Army). Roughly 7 million people lived in the area. The peasants who lived there refused to pay rent to the landowners and seized the estates and livestock of the church, state and private landowners, setting up local committees to manage them and share them among the various villages and communes of the Free State.

Michael Moorcock’s “A Nomad of the Time Streams” is a steampunk/alternative history novel where Makhno survives into the 1940s.

Mutual aid often starts small. My advice is to start with one friend and tell them what you are worried about and how you can work together to alleviate the issue. If you don't know how to fix it, asking for help figuring it out is also a good start. Could be as broad as being worried about the heat this summer, to wanting help fucking up hostile architecture

From there just focus on making something. A garden, a document containing research, a bench, time saved, anything. A common bit of advice I have heard is "fail gracefully". Expect that eventually y'all will stop working together, and so focus on things that will last beyond that.

Only after this do I recommend getting more people involved. Don't bring a hundred people together as the project itself. That will just leave everyone scratching their heads, muttering "what now?" and just leaving. There are a lot of leftists on this platform, but not all too much reaching out to join in with mutual aid. Getting people money when they need it is cool, but that's about the extent I see here. I post here a lot myself, I'll be the first to admit that. I can't say if it hurts, but alone I know it doesn't help.

Friendships aren't just for venting and playing games. I can't even consider someone a friend until we work on a project together myself honestly. We gotta make things and do things.
