In 2006, following the tragic death of his 24-year-old son Eric in a motorcycle accident, Chris discovered a colony of 30 sick kittens near train tracks. He rescued them, nursed them back to health, and found solace in caring for these animals during his grief. This pivotal moment inspired him to dedicate his life to rescuing cats, leading to the creation of the Happy Cat Sanctuary.
The sanctuary became a haven for cats with no other options. Over the years, Chris took in cats that had been victims of hoarding situations, shot at or abused, targeted by gangs for use as bait in dogfighting rings, suffering from blindness or feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV,) or neglected or abandoned by their owners.

Chris ensured all cats were spayed/neutered, provided with medical care, and given a safe environment to heal and thrive. He even built heated perches, hammocks, and cozy shelters for them to enjoy.
Chris lived in an 8x10-foot bedroom within the sanctuary, with only a mini-fridge and microwave for himself. Every dollar he earned or raised went toward the care of the cats. His selflessness was widely recognized by friends and volunteers, who described him as a humanitarian who gave everything to ensure the well-being of animals.
Chris was in the process of relocating the sanctuary to a 30-acre property upstate, intending to create one of the best cat sanctuaries in the country. Tragically, he passed away before realizing this dream.
During the fire that claimed his life, Chris repeatedly ran into the burning building to rescue as many cats as possible. His actions saved dozens of lives but ultimately cost him his own. Volunteers and rescuers have since stepped in to continue his mission by caring for the surviving cats.

Today our latest foster, Amber (a 3 year old pit bull cross), went off to her new home. A year ago she was rescued and had a litter of puppies. Since then she's been in the shelter. Being a shy dog she's been hard to get adopted however my partner put a lot of socialization and training in over the last couple weeks. She's a lovely dog and it's shame she had to wait so long.

I took this from the back seat of our car as Amber was sitting in the passenger seat. We had another dog in the back of our Outback and wanted to keep them separate. Amber looks very comfortable sitting in the front looking forward at the sunset as we we were driving west.

If you're in South Wales and have a safe home, consider fostering kitties - the shelter provides everything you need (bedding, litter box, food, cage, carrier, blankets, etc.) and also covers all vet costs, so the only thing you need to provide is a warm, safe environment for these kitties to acclimatise in until they're ready for adoption!

Forgotten Felines Cat Rescue 27 voice mails yesterday with 23 asking to help take in cats. We cannot physically phone everyone back , so if you have no reply it is because we are full. We have over 100 cats in foster atm and unable to help anymore until some are adopted. So If you see one of our posts advertising a cat for adoption, please share. As one cat is rehomed we can bring another in ! Small rescues are struggling more and more with immense pressure on them where the larger rescues fail to help. Please be respectful as small rescues are often run by volunteers and are limited by space and finances. We are Sorry, but we cannot do it all 😪 We simply cannot do it all !!!

As for the babies: just as demanding and loving as their mom, they all come running up for pets and kisses, and are round little floofballs that love any and all snacks that are offered to them. We’ve separated the boys from the mom & girls, as they’re old enough now that it’s time!

Hello, #FediVerse! I am new here and I am looking for my people so that I can follow them and maybe even have conversations. Are you my people?

I’m migrating from Instagram, where I did more lurking than posting. It’s taking me some time to find my way around over here.

I’m particularly interested in finding #Horse people, and people who are into #ClickerTraining, #PositiveReinforcement, and #AnimalBehavior. I worked in #AnimalRescue for five years, but man is that a hard, draining career. I am currently recovering from pretty severe burnout. But I still love my local #AnimalShelter.

All of my horses are #Adopted because hey, I was in a position to provide them a home when they needed it. No shame if that’s not how you got your horse(s) - I just find that if I think too hard about looking for another herd member, the universe provides. So I try not to think that too hard, because the ones I have now are plenty! :P

My #horses are varied in size from a tall #Percheron to a chonky little #Haflinger, and all in their mid-twenties. They live with me at a rural #HousingCooperative and kindly allow themselves to be petted and played with by local community members in an outreach program that I started this winter. It’s still a pretty small endeavor. We’ll see where it goes. I’ll probably post about that sometimes.

I hope this reaches you, #HorseLovers and #ClickerTrainers! Also, anyone else who wants to say hi! There is a long list of other topics I may post about in my bio, so I won’t list everything in this already rather long post. Thanks for reading if you made it this far.
