Now, of course, y'all have your own opinions about what distro to change to... with the leading condenders in our recent discussion about tiling window managers being #Arch and #NixOS - I think my Cunning Plan is to take it slowly -- which is why I was trying to install ydotool in the first place!

Step 1: Replace the hard drive on my laptop with a BIG drive. I'd been meaning to do this anyway, eventually, because I made a stupid mistake when I'd ordered that laptop originally, not getting a big enough drive.
Step 2: Since a replacement drive requires one to install a distro from scratch, then I will install a NEW distro from scratch.
Step 3: Take a couple of weeks to set up the laptop to my exact desires.

A stunning view of a sunlit Moccasin Arch in Monument Valley Arizona reveals a natural rock arch with a large cave underneath, clear blue skies overhead, and an arid sandy landscape in front. Sparse vegetation adds touches of green to the dry rugged landscape.

So are other #Arch #Linux users re-evaluating how they use #AUR packages, in light of the recent malware incidents? I mean I guess it's pretty obvious that software that comes from unverified sources anywhere should be treated as malware until proven otherwise. I don't have the time or expertise to pore through every PKGBUILD so I'm just deleting everything I don't really need.
Is there more that the average user can do?

I have an older am3+ mb with a ryzen fx-8350 black edition (I think built in 2012). It was my windows 10 machine but with the eol of win 10 I decided to install arch and gnome on it instead.

It would be plenty of powerful enough still to run win 11 (I know registry hacks work to install) but frankly I'm just over microsoft, their telemetry, their ad tech, and most importantly chatgpt/github copilot

I've just attempted to print a test page, on #CachyOS / #Arch.

My #Ricoh SP150 #printer made terrifying noises! 😱 …i've pulled the AC mains cable, before it rattled itself to bits.

I only have #Linux drivers as a .deb file; i've extracted the "zip file" and put the files in their CUPS path, manually.

Yeah, nah, i'll NOT attempt printing on a non- #Debian / #Ubuntu Linux, again!

I'm done with bleeding edge and rolling releases - i want a somewhat curated and stable experience! 😅

The Dunning-Kruger effect amongst inexperienced #Arch users is real, and some people out there have definitely realized that makes them very easy targets for malware.

On a related note, "beginner-friendly" Arch-derivatives that provide access to the AUR out-of-the-box with simple graphical tools are at best irresponsible and at worst just plain malicious. Looking at you #Endeavour #Manjaro

"Give it to me!" his #arch-nemesis roared as flames filled the hallway. "The Jade Monkey's power is not for you!"
"No" Harry Blackburn clutched the Mayan trinket to his chest, "We're going to #finish this like men!"
Doctor Goodtooth coughed, "But I'm transitioning, asshole! Can't we settle this like people instead?"
Harry grabbed Doc's hand, pulling them to the exit. "Fine, we'll play Scrabble. Best out of three."
"Fair enough." Goodtooth whispered, "Y'think I pass?"
"You're gorgeous."
