Strange question time!

Is there anyone reading this who has sometimes spoken the phrase "Weberian ossicles" as part of their job or field of expertise?

I need to know the correct pronunciation, and of course the web is NO help at all because it's crowded with bizarre AI-driven artificial voices telling me how to pronounce stuff and I don't trust ANY of them.

Thanks!

Does anyone have any advice on where to start for learning c++? I already know Python and Rust really well. My motivation for wanting to learn C++ is to expand future career possibilities if things go south at my current job and I also generally enjoy learning.

I'm a big fan of #Linux and #HelixEditor and would want to use both. I'd like to know how to setup a basic project, how to select a compiler, how to add dependencies, how to setup modules, etc.

How do folks make those cool terminal outputs that update multiple lines independently? Like this docker compose one that has 3 spinners on 3 different lines for the status of each container, and each line updates as the status changes.

I know about `tput` but I assume there are some decent libraries for this sort of thing.

A family member’s Surface laptop went dark the other day. It seems to be Windows-related. I offered to “fix” it for them by installing Ubuntu. I’m thinking of going with Gnome since Unity is too different from the Windows UI, so they’re not completely disoriented. Or should I go with KDE?

If you’ve introduced a Windows user to Linux before, please share your tips!

If I write systemctl status --all in the terminal I can see some writing about old units like "Unit ntpsec.service could not be found." or something like that.
So the question is, where does #systemd get it from? I haven't had ntpsec for a long time.
and there are no unit files left in the system, but for some reason systemd remembers them and searches for them for some reason, and throws an error.

Fediverse, can you help? I'm growing weary of constantly fighting this fight in my campaign groups and seeking other effective articles and resources to tackle antifascists' justifications for remaining on Twitter and such because "we must go where people are." You can call it a Nazi bar, but their counter is "a bunch of us are still on there and we aren't Nazis." Sigh. 🔴 **Question ❓**

Is it not strange that even after the mass proliferation of mobile phones and their cameras there has not been one credible image taken of the Himalayan Yeti? This leads me to think, what were people who reported sightings all those years ago actually witnessing?
