I am considering changing my Mastodon server. For those that know the type of content that I post, what do you advise would be the best instance for me?
Is it difficult for one to self-host a Mastodon account?

Update on "Mistress of the Empire" by R. Feist & J. Wurts:
I finally read through the fifth chapter. Yay!
Also, I'm looking for a book to read in Cozy Fantasy genre, preferably set in a library. Any ideas? (This will be my first ever book in the genre.)

Strange question time!
Is there anyone reading this who has sometimes spoken the phrase "Weberian ossicles" as part of their job or field of expertise?
I need to know the correct pronunciation, and of course the web is NO help at all because it's crowded with bizarre AI-driven artificial voices telling me how to pronounce stuff and I don't trust ANY of them.
Thanks!
Does anyone have any advice on where to start for learning c++? I already know Python and Rust really well. My motivation for wanting to learn C++ is to expand future career possibilities if things go south at my current job and I also generally enjoy learning.
I'm a big fan of #Linux and #HelixEditor and would want to use both. I'd like to know how to setup a basic project, how to select a compiler, how to add dependencies, how to setup modules, etc.
How do folks make those cool terminal outputs that update multiple lines independently? Like this docker compose one that has 3 spinners on 3 different lines for the status of each container, and each line updates as the status changes.
I know about `tput` but I assume there are some decent libraries for this sort of thing.
Does anybody know if the following website is legit? They have a spare part for one of my machines that I can't find anywhere else, but I just wanna be sure that it is not a scam before ordering it.
What’s a good general purpose mastodon instance for a fediverse newbie to join?
A family member’s Surface laptop went dark the other day. It seems to be Windows-related. I offered to “fix” it for them by installing Ubuntu. I’m thinking of going with Gnome since Unity is too different from the Windows UI, so they’re not completely disoriented. Or should I go with KDE?
If you’ve introduced a Windows user to Linux before, please share your tips!

Does anybody know of a Fediverse instance that supports long-form blogging with images, accepts new members, and is not limited in content to technology?
Boosts appreciated for visibility, thank you.
If I write systemctl status --all in the terminal I can see some writing about old units like "Unit ntpsec.service could not be found." or something like that.
So the question is, where does #systemd get it from? I haven't had ntpsec for a long time.
and there are no unit files left in the system, but for some reason systemd remembers them and searches for them for some reason, and throws an error.
Question for anybody who knows about living and working in Japan.
Is ¥10 million a reasonable annual salary to support an entire family of six in Tokyo? Especially for someone used to making more than two and a half times that in the US?
Do I remember someone mentioning a simple solution for preventing Mastodon instances from hammering a website when a link is posted?
(Might have slightly broken Mrs E's website, but I think it's recovered now.)
@iFixit (or anyone) would you happen to know if it's possible to remove the battery from a newer smartphone (say, a Samsung S20) and have it run only from power coming from usb? (End goal: run a phone as a server without the risk of an old battery exploding).
** Tariffs And The Bond Market**
Who would have thought that the international bond market was a 'co-equal branch' of the administration?
Are there alternatives to The Wayback Machine and archive.is ?
Google + Bing got rid of their cache feature. The Wayback Machine went down recently. Archive.is is owned by an anonymous owner and privately funded.
Fediverse, can you help? I'm growing weary of constantly fighting this fight in my campaign groups and seeking other effective articles and resources to tackle antifascists' justifications for remaining on Twitter and such because "we must go where people are." You can call it a Nazi bar, but their counter is "a bunch of us are still on there and we aren't Nazis." Sigh. Is it not strange that even after the mass proliferation of mobile phones and their cameras there has not been one credible image taken of the Himalayan Yeti? This leads me to think, what were people who reported sightings all those years ago actually witnessing?
Just learned about #openvide today. Did you give it a try? What's your experience like?
