Power, Purpose, and Historical Fiction — Meet Sam Foster

What does it mean to write #historicalfiction that’s both deeply researched and boldly personal?

In this new episode of Audio Signals #podcast on ITSPmagazine, I sit down with #author Sam Foster to talk about the creative process behind Thy Mother Is A Lioness, his newest work exploring powerful women in #Renaissance Italy and the hidden strength passed through generations.

We talked about:

🖋️ #Writing from experience vs. researching the unknown

📚 Blending truth with #fiction without rewriting #history

💡 #Creativity as a lifelong purpose—not just a profession

🖥️ Using #Substack to share stories directly with readers

It’s a story about #storytelling.

A reflection on identity, curiosity, and the drive to ask: Why?

I’d like some crowd sourced feedback on possible book titles for my not yet completed #WIP. The story follows the same MC and friends over a 20 year period, alternating between the past & present until the timelines catch up. I’m not committed to anything yet, but thought of these today and wanted to ask what you all think.

Limbert, H. & DeSanto, D., (2025) “The Open Book Environment (OBE) Dashboard: A Tool for Increasing Publisher Transparency for #Authors, #Librarians, and the #Scholarly Community”, Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication 13(1). doi: doi.org/10.31274/jlsc.18112 #OpenAccess

Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly CommunicationThe Open Book Environment (OBE) Dashboard: A Tool for Increasing Publisher Transparency for Authors, Librarians, and the Scholarly CommunityIntroduction: The Open Book Environment (OBE) Dashboard is introduced as a pioneering tool aimed at fostering transparency and clarity in the realm of open access book publishing. In response to the growing need for accessible information for authors, librarians, and stakeholders, this dashboard aggregates data from a multitude of publishers into a centralized platform. Description of Program/Service: Employing a comprehensive set of criteria, including pricing for book processing charges (BPCs), licensing options, editorial quality statements, and self-archiving policies, the Dashboard evaluates publisher transparency. Through a color-coded system, it visually represents the degree of openness exhibited by each publisher, empowering authors to make informed decisions about where to publish their work. Next Steps: Looking ahead, the Dashboard’s dynamic nature allows for continuous updates, facilitating its role as an agent for positive change within the scholarly publishing community. As a versatile resource, the OBE Dashboard holds promise in enhancing efficiency, transparency, and accountability in open access book publishing. So when a fiction novel (not short stories) has two authors how does that work?
Does one mostly write the words and they collaborate on storyline and character development? Do they split up chapters?

I’ve always been curious about this since it’s often an author’s writing style that people enjoy as much - if not more - than the story itself.
