My kids' babysitter got hit by a car today. We think she's okay (she went to the hospital), but yeah- #FuckCars #BanCars. If you're having trouble getting federal funds for the subway NY, there's still too many cars in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Expand that congestion pricing zone and raise the price!

As I wrestle once again with the annual agony of getting the car MOT’d and serviced (made worse by trying a new garage who’ve turned out to be useless so I will get to do some of it again next week at my usual place), and look at the insurance renewal that has just come through and while lower than last year is painful, I would really really like it if society would stop forcing me to own the bloody thing.

On of my kid's teachers canceled a meeting with us today because his car wouldn't start in the cold. Cars, as always, remain incredibly stupid.

[edit: And I don't mean that he couldn't, like, drive to our silly little meeting or something. I mean that he actually had to take the day off of work because he couldn't drive to school.]

Would I Lie To You is back with a new season, and I was happy to hear in the first episode that David Mitchell does not drive a car!

I was really hoping he would say bicycle and walking when the little bit incredulous guest then asked how he gets around. Unfortunately he just had a joke answer (a funny one, but I wanted to know).

Possible new guest for @TheWarOnCars? :)

One such incident, captured on video on Dec. 23, involved the group forcibly entering a commercial property at 75-10 31 Ave. in Queens and fleeing with an ATM in an unknown direction. There have been no injuries reported in the incidents."

Periodically some people call for cyclists to pay “road tax” saying that they contribute to wear on the roads etc. so should pay towards maintenance.
As I understand it the amount of wear a vehicle causes varies based on the fourth power of the axle weight.
So if I’ve got my sums right, having a charge of a pound a month for a bicycle, and taxing motorists in direct proportion to difference in damage done to road could look something like this…
