Swede’s PhotographsThe Stump and the SingerI love the composition of this image. While my dog Charlie and I were out this morning, we came across a Carolina wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus) perched atop a tall, weathered tree stump—busy, perhaps, hunting for spiders. I started taking pictures right away, worried it might fly off before I got the shot.First, I photographed into the sun. Then we moved past and I caught a few with the light behind me. This is one of those. Sarah MaddoxA pair of Grey Butcherbirds have built their nest in a tree fern below our house. The problem with tree ferns is that they sprout new fronds from the centre of the trunk, exactly where the nest is now.
