MikeDunnAuthor<p>Today in Labor History May 14, 1940: Emma Goldman (1869-1940) died in Toronto, at the age of 70. She had been raising money for anti-Franco forces in Spain. Goldman emigrated to the U.S. from Lithuania in 1885. The Haymarket Affair radicalized her and attracted her to the anarchist movement. She planned the assassination of industrialist Henry Clay Frick, along with her lover Alexander Berkman. However, Frick survived and Berkman was sentenced to 22 years in prison. After that, she renounced “propaganda by the deed.” Nevertheless, she continued to agitate for women’s and workers’ rights and for anarchism. And she went to prison numerous times for “inciting to riot” and for distributing information about birth control. She also went to prison in 1917 for “inducing persons not to register” for the draft. When she was released, the U.S. deported her, and 248 other radicals, to Russia. While the law has been used to prosecute both anti-abortion protesters targeting abortion clinics and abortion rights protesters targeting anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers, Trump baselessly claimed the Biden administration 'selectively weaponized [the law] against Christians.' Maggie Maybe<p>Look this is why we need to be paying attention to what is happening in our states.</p><p>Trump is meant to distract us all while they all attack us at the state level. They are all introducing the same bills in all our states.</p><p>They were ready. While the Democrats were reaching across the aisle to be friends with them they were preparing these documents to submit to the states.</p><p>The Dems will not be coming to save us, they could have prevented this battle by saving women’s reproductive rights but the filibuster was more important.</p><p>We all need to be paying attention to what is happening in our states and pushing back at the state level. Because they are all doing all of these things. </p><p>Also stop having sex with men who aren’t actively fighting against this. Don’t have sex with men who don’t vote. Don’t have sex with men who vote Republican. Just don’t, it can literally kill you. Maggie Maybe<p>The first bill heard in this committee today was the one that would give doctors the right to conscientiously object to providing birth control, sterilizing procedures, a hysterectomy, or an abortion.</p><p>I had to stop watching it partly because I had to go to an appointment but it was really pissing me off we didn’t hear any of these concerns when they were having a hearing to see about getting Medicaid to stop covering circumcisions that aren’t medically necessary or religious based.</p><p>This is an attack on women’s healthcare. One of the healthcare providers who testified against the bill called it a right to discriminate, and she’s right.
