Student Makes Tool That Identifies ‘Radicals’ on Reddit, Deploys #AI #Bots to Engage With Them

A student has made a tool, which they call #PrismX , which scans for users writing certain keywords on #Reddit and other social media networks, assigns those users a so-called “radical score,” and can then deploy an AI-powered #bot to automatically engage with the users in conversation in an attempt to de-radicalize them.

A few days ago, I told you my troubles when I was trying to put back online a website for an association. After hours and many nervous breakdowns, it's back and live !

But now, I've got dozens and dozens of bots spamming my mentions by trying to let comments on every articles and to use the contact form.
I have to stop these features.

If those ****** AI fueled bots prevent a tiny association from working, imagine the damages they can make on bigger structures?

My advice to stay beautiful and small: Block the 100 #AI #Bots and the 20 beggars' spam accounts that always say the same thing, from diabetes to asthma to war (I give money only to reliable adresses). Makes 124-120=4.

I noticed that a *lot* of the crawlers/bots we see on www.bbc.co.uk & www.bbc.com are spoofed e.g. a "Meta" crawler coming from 10s of different small ISPs across the world (the real one comes from a Meta ASN).
I deployed a change this morning which adds source ASN validation (alongside user-agent string analysis) to our "known crawlers/bots" classifier & well, the results speak for themselves. Attached graphs show RPS from "known crawlers/bots" to www.bbc.co.uk & www.bbc.com.

I think everyone over the past 5 years has noticed the influx of #bots on #facebook #instagram and #reddit. I fear such tools will continue to be used by right wing parties to stoke fears to win elections. But beyond that shift public opinion. Would our thoughts even be our own?

We need more detection and laws banning AI or marking anything as “made by AI”.

Man, it's been a while since I bumped directly into one of them #russian #bots spreading #kremlin filth in mastodon.

A LOT of them coming from ieji.de instance, wonder wtf is going on there. must be the large amount of russians in #Germany, who stoked the flames of war in #russia, gargling fascist Vlad's balls, but fled their paradise, so they wouldn't have to bear the brunt of that which they advocate for others.

Protected my website https://hofstede.io with Anubis (https://anubis.techaro.lol) to keep AI scraper bots out. It uses a proof-of-work algoritm to filter out some bots.

Was rather easy to integrate into my setup with Traefik and Podman
