When the province introduced its #HealthConnectRegistry in 2021, we were told this would help #patients to find a #FamilyPhysician.
About 900,000 #BritishColumbians have no doctor, and while the #Health Ministry continues to announce the recruitment of new #physicians, that number has remained fairly constant for years.
Yet the #inability of the Registry to make meaningful progress is only one of its failings.
More troubling is that the Registry makes no attempt to place patients based on their age or #medical condition. This conflicts with one of the basic principles underlying medical practice, that faced with an inability to treat everyone who needs help, those with the most pressing requirements should come first.
“According to the federal government, 23 per cent of #BritishColumbians have been vaccinated with the #XBB15 vaccine, which was first distributed in the fall of 2023 and offered again through this spring’s 2024 campaign.
This represents one of the highest vaccination rates in the country, where the national average is 18 per cent vaccinated — but it’s still less than one-third of #BC.’s population, and that #COVID strain is no longer dominant,”

By Moriarty’s calculations, one in 52 #BritishColumbians currently has #COVID. According to recent federal wastewater testing from mid-July, B.C. has “high” COVID-19 activity levels.
It’s no surprise that big #polluting companies are not happy about annual #CarbonTax increases. But it is #unfair that #BritishColumbians must pay the full carbon tax when the #OilAndGas industry, whose production is responsible for more than one-quarter of #BritishColumbia #CarbonEmissions, gets a carbon #TaxBreak.
The new system will also have a negative impact on B.C.’s carbon #TaxRevenues. In 2024-25, carbon tax revenues will be about $500 million lower than they would have been under the old system. This #RevenueLoss means fewer dollars to pay for #ClimateAction.
These changes point to a #BCgovernment that is far too cosy with the oil and gas #industry. And they make no sense given the urgency of acting on #ClimateChange. #Disasters in 2021 alone caused between $11 billion and $16 billion in damage to the #BCeconomy.
If B.C. really wants to be a #climate leader, the government must stop pandering to lobbying by the oil and gas industry that is causing climate change and act in the interests of all British Columbians

On May 7 #BCgovernment #MinistryOfForests announced the launch of a new #Forest Operations #Map (FOM) portal where #BritishColumbians can now access & comment on proposed operations, including #cutblocks & #roads, after amendments to Forest & Range Practices Act #FRPA.
Though the majority of #forestry companies in #BritishColumbia have committed to presenting their proposed operations in the #FOMportal, the project is currently #voluntary, the press release stated.
