While listening to Naktis, I decided it would be great to play this again. This album with a wonderful, tranquil cover is another hidden gem from the Soviet Union. Jangly guitars, raspy voice, some folk elements, all songs sung in Belarusian - a language marginalised today - makes for a great album. Like the cover suggests, it does sound like a sunny spring day.

I don't think there is a single album that sounds quite like this. It's a sometimes dreamlike mix of primitive, ingenious synth work with reggae or ska inspired drum riffs and jangly guitar work. The origin is romantic and mysterious: recorded on a reel-to-reel in #Soviet #Latvia, only being released to the world in 2010. Skola is an absolutely beautiful track and Jaunais Gads is abruptly drops you into an infectious dance-rhythm.

As of now every CD I own has now been ripped.
Stored in a cloud and local HD.
3 large boxes worth.

#NowListening: #Revenge (ex-#NewOrder #PeterHook) - One True Passion

This album undeservedly gets a lot of hate, even by Peter Hook himself. Sometimes the greatest creations, the unique art pieces, come forth from strife, confusion, and a lot of drugs: this album ticks all boxes. At times it's brooding, sweaty, industrial, Pineapple Face, then the sky clears up: Big Bang is bright, hopeful, and jangly. Kiss The Chrome is the only letdown on this awkward masterpiece.

From a time it was difficult for female artists to truly find a voice and many stars were backed by a lot of (male) instrumentalists, producers, and lyricists, it's refreshing to come across this oft-overlooked Canadian singer, multi-intrumentalist, and lyricist pumping out high quality #artrock, boasting a powerful, soaring voice that made my neigbour once ask to turn the music down because it pierced through the walls.

Hailed as a spiritual follow-up to their panned '83 - and my personal favourite - Dazzle Ships, I see where that claim comes from but I cannot agree wholeheartedly. There is some experimental tracks with interesting sound work but I don't think it translates quite that well into our modern age. This album feels naive and bubbly where Dazzle Ships was dark and metallic.

First EP released in 2002. Self-recorded and the feeling is intimate and raw. Sounds great! Six tracks and they’re all pretty good stuff.

”Opium Flower” has a #slowcore feeling, reminds me a bit of ”Things We Lost in the Fire” era #Low.
