Anyone have any info on what caused the two leadership departures at #android #calyxos? 6 months of no updates sounds like a nail in the coffin for the #os distro. It has been removed from https://FullStackOpenSource.com

Really not looking forward to migrating away from #CalyxOS.
Even with #Seedvault backups, this is a total pain. Actually, Seedvault has been next to useless in my experience, I find ways to back up each app individually, which of course takes a ton of time and effort.
#CalyxOS stellt die Entwicklung vorübergehend ein: https://calyxos.org/news/2025/08/01/a-letter-to-our-community/
Puh, das ist echt übel.
#CalyxOS releases and security updates will be paused for 4-6 months due to retooling, personnel departures and the recent changes to #AOSP. They've released a "letter to the community" here.
I'm debating on whether to move to GrapheneOS or, since their social media team attacked and "banned" me, and accused me of being some kind of spy because I mentioned CalyxOS in a comment, I may just use regular #Android and lock it down the best I can.

Thought they were quiet. Best of luck to Nick and Chirayu but that 4-6 months is a long time.
Time to research alternatives

Freiheit, Datenschutz, Nachhaltigkeit? Offenbar unerwünscht.
So, now I’m getting treated differently just because I picked #GrapheneOS? In a so-called “free” world, I can’t even choose my own software without people lining up to judge me? That’s pathetic.
If my preferences make you so mad, that’s your problem, not mine. I refuse to let anyone shame me or push me around over my device choices.
Find something better to do than policing what other people use. I’m done listening to this hypocrisy.
@nixCraft There's also #CaylxOS for if the device isn't the latest, as #GrapheneOS focuses on a select few devices
Also for anyone considering a Pixel solely for #GrapheneOS or #CalyxOS, I'd advise you to Avoid the #Pixel8. Mine randomly died on me after 1 year after it went flat. Got told it was $300~$400 to replace it
I’m running CalyxOS on my old Fairphone4, not because it’s a bad choice, but precisely to observe how incredibly behind this OS is on security updates.
My primary device today is a Pixel 9a running GrapheneOS, not this outdated, insecure, and privacy-compromised Fairphone 4.
This Fairphone never became my daily driver once I realized just how far behind it is on security and privacy. I used it from October 2022 until I switched to my Pixel 6a running GrapheneOS in early May 2023, and only recently upgraded to the 9a (see links below):

Now, heading into August 2025, and the Fairphone is on Android 15 with vendor and firmware updates on CalyxOS stuck at versions from March 5 for vendor, and June 1 Platform and June 5 for kenel updates, months behind in a critical security landscape.
It is very funny when you get blocked for sharing a "Comparison of Android-based Operating Systems" that I didn't make, and if you think anything is factually incorrect with the comparison chart, you can contribute to it.

@arstechnica Guess I'll go with #CalyxOS or #GrapheneOS... or maybe a full-fledged Linux mobile distro
#Poll: Hey #FOSS #Android (#CalyxOS, #GrapheneOS, #eOS, #LineageOS, whatever) folks, now that Android is demonstrably changing for the worse (in FOSS-hostile ways), what are you planning on doing?
Further news from the #CalyxOS team regarding Android 16.
It seems that their security updates will be delayed due to a shifting emphasis on re-tooling for the new changes in how Android is shared (or not) with the FOSS community.
This... this is bad. :(

My mum completely destroyed her Pixel 3, it’s time to get her a new phone. I am thinking about gifting her my #Fairphone5.
What should I get instead?
For sure I will have to deGoogle my new device, either installing, #LineageOS, #CalyxOS, or #GrapheneOS.
My top priorities:
(note: Pixel 10 is supposed to launch in August)

For the first time I flashed a phone with #CalyxOS from another CalyxOS phone using @calyxos 's web installer ( https://install.calyxos.org/ ). No additional laptop was necessary. Quite a step from the first times we flashed phones at the @fsfe in 2012. Thanks @grote for the hint to try that out!
