This @TheEconomist on decline of #Cars + #driving in younger age groups (ht @gwagner ) is interesting.
I'm 40+ & owning a car in #Copenhagen would significantly *reduce* my #QualityOfLife - though thanks to #LetsGoDK #CarShare I can access one when I need.
But it's clear young relatives in rural #England are utterly #Car dependent. Without safe #CycleInfra even #Ebikes are far too dangerous.
The #Future is here, but it's not evenly distributed.
I had my trusty folding #ebike and planned to catch a train home.
Made it through Queen St, but several parts of it were almost knee deep. Had to carry my bike on my shoulders, as I don't think it can be submerged.
At Britomart, they suddenly cancelled all #trains. The staff couldn't say whether or not there would be any rail replacement #buses.
I waited almost 30 minutes for a bus that never showed up. So I booked a #carshare for a day and drove home.
The roads were flooded, but made it home.
I have been car -free since I moved to #Copenhagen 15 years ago. Can only recommend #CarShare as the way to go

@IPEdmonton Yes, it is easier in some parts of the city than others. Very easy where we live in the West End. We joined #Communauto as soon as we moved here & ditched one of the 2 cars we'd needed in the suburbs. Everything we need is close by - a bus route to work at the end of our street & at least 3 #CarShare options within a 5 min walk. Cycling infrastructure still sucks in #ZeroVisionHFX but it is slowly being built (although well behind schedule).
It's now 3 months since we went #CarFree as a family.
TL;DR - we're wealthier and healthier!
#Wealth: Using #Communauto #CarShare is $150/month cheaper than having our own car parked on the drive. That's a projected saving of $3k a year while still accessing a car when we need.
#Health: I use my fabulous @ternbicycles P9 for groceries & #ShopLocal more. #Cycling & #Walking more means more #PhysicalActivity. Bonus: that also makes me happier! #ClimateAction
