Fox News in Mastodon?

No.

Can I be more clear?

No.

Fox News on Mastodon through effing bluesky bullshit api effing sharing?

No. Redacted. REDACTED.

I swear too much. But ffs get them off, end the blusky shit API .

This is a demand. Or a moderator request, but we have warned about creeping fascism of bluesky for YEARS NOW.

All of the software you use, from big tech companies, Apple, Microsoft, Google, Facebook/beta, owners, took fleets of private jets to Washington to bathe in Trumps victory, adore his cock, watch Nazi salutes..., is watching you, your work, and keeping transcripts. All of them brought massive cash and promises.

You are in danger.

Your software is not yours.

You are in danger.

I’m putting it out there: I really wish I knew some coding people who are not cis male that I could look up to, be inspired by. I am yet again surround by cis males in tech on my course - and they are truly brilliant and inspiring - but I feel like I don’t belong and shouldn’t be here.

The people I am seeking to follow and be inspired by are those who “code first” (not sure how to describe that, hence the quotes) and didn’t adopt more of a PR or front-facing role, mostly leaving coding behind as the vast majority of females I know in tech eventually did. (And a reason why I felt I also didn’t belong in tech or coding and should follow them, after I was told all I do as a web dev who directly helped my employer’s entire business scale up is “just pretty things up”).

So: who are some non cis males whose career is centred on coding excellence who I could follow online somehow? Really not sure of the right words to describe this, so please rephrase “coding excellence” if you need - I mean people who mostly just want to code, be great at code, inspire others to be great too, they could teach or not, lecture or not, just hang out online, whatever. Their actual job could be in almost ANY industry, not just software dev or similar.

Fellow #Programmers, #Coders (and possibly #Mathematicians) lend me your wisdom!

I’m learning from books and I “know” the best way to learn from them is to work through them. But what I don’t know is how I’m doing. I’m often frustrated at my pace, since I don’t know what normal is.

And I need to learn stuff, to land a job. (I’m old. I want to pivot into a remote job, ergo devops. Anyway, that’s enough about me.)

So here’s the question(s),

1. How long do you take to work through a new text / proof / new book on a new topic that you don't know?

2. How long did it take you (if you remember) when you were just starting out?
3. Were you doing this on your own?
4. Were there other people / things / places that aided you?

Please boost, to help a slow learner?! Thank you!

Let's say you’re running #Apple #macOS 14.5 Sonoma on a MacBook 14-inch M1 Pro, with an Administrator account that has a standard set of #development tools and commonly needed casks installed via #homebrew. What is the #BestPractice for sharing access to the same set of #devtools and apps with another user on the same computer? Ideally we are not installing the tools twice, or giving root access to the other user. #security #programming #coders #momswhocode #mentor #kidswhocode #codeandcoffee

#unionized industries like health care & airlines would likely be the least affected, since their working hrs are hashed out at the bargaining table in many cases. #AB2751 specifically allows #CollectiveBargaining agreements to take precedence over #RightToDisconnect protections.

Other industries w/less #union penetration, such as #tech, would likely see clearer rules ahead of time e.g. like when #coders would be required to pull all-nighters to ship the latest update.

#FOSDEM (#FOSDEM2024) is just around the corner and I'm happy to see you all in person!

You will recognise me by an ugly Christmas sweater or I'll wear a shirt with my avatar (depending on if I'm freezing).

Just an important note for everyone who'll come by car - keep in mind that you need an approval/permission to enter the environmental (low emission) zone in #Brussels (#Belgium) by car.

If your car mets the conditions you can register your license plate for free here: https://lez.brussels/mytax/en/

See you soon!

Although the Pascal name came quite a bit later and was actually a suggestion from someone on #coders who suggested that Pascal would be a good name for me (while I was rambling about why I preferred Pascal over C).

#Salesforce executive makes four recommendations, urging #coders to design sites in ways that reduce the #energy needed to display them. They also recommend writing application code that uses less energy, which "can lead to significant emissions reductions, particularly when deployed at scale. Leaders can seek out apps that are coded to run natively in browsers which can lead to improvement in performance and a reduction in energy use."

I am wondering #coders #programmers #software and #knitters people--- I am surprised to find there are many ways to turn #knitting designs created as pixel images into knitting #patterns. However, I haven't seen a way to turn knitting patterns (in text format) into simple #design output. I think this would be a fun way to make designs, and quickly edit them, rather than having to make an image first.

What sort of tools would prove helpful for designing such a program? Perhaps best if using #python, as I know a bit of that already, albeit mainly for #scripting purposes. I am thinking the following may be key steps, mainly for RECTANGULAR projects like scarves and blankets for starting...

- First determine the set width of the project (say 1 unit per stitch cast on).
- Perhaps each stitch could be a certain 1 unit x 1 unit image or something.
- Certain #stitches may end up adding to the width or reducing it, and maybe some stitches would end up being 2 unit x 1 unit. (1/2)

So I know there are tons of brilliant #coders on here & I have a question. One of my biggest challenges is #IDE ...

I've been using notepad for #JavaScript, #PHP & #html & #css which I know is really holding me back, but... I don't want an IDE that looks like the inside of a space shuttle cockpit.

Is there an IDE out there that is simple, elegant, & doesn't take up 30GB of disk space while also having essential features like:

Visually shows the relationship between code & output in real-time?
