Grace isn’t about avoiding responsibility. It’s about staying open. It’s about keeping space for growth, both in ourselves and others.

So today’s detour became something sacred: a practice in humility. A call to curiosity.
A reminder that in the work of building community and co-creating a just world, I must always—always—return to the question:

“What am I missing?”

Whether you are a regular park visitor, or have never heard of #WellandCommunityOrchard before, come out and explore with a guided 1 hour #tour of this incredible community resource. Learn about some of the 100 + heritage apple varieties planted in the orchard, as well as some fruit trees you may have never heard of before such as Plout and Medlar! Plus learn about some of the interesting features on site including rainwater collection, pollinator habitat and native plant gardens.

#GuidedTours of the #CommunityOrchard is by public donation with all funds going back into orchard needs/upkeep/stewardship. We are grassroots nonprofit.

The tour will be followed by a Welland Orchard Work Party from 1pm-3pm. If you plan to attend both, feel free to bring a lunch and enjoy a picnic in the orchard. For more information about the work party or to sign up, please visit the Gleaning Hub at gleaning.lifecyclesproject.ca

EventbriteWelland Orchard TourCome on out to Welland Orchard for a fun and educational tour of the park!

Come on out & #volunteer for fun #signmaking at #WellandCommunityOrchard with me & others!
There's 2 days for new signs making work to be done. I'll be there on both days 😊

Monday, July 21st, 10am-12pm.
Sunday, July 27th, 1pm-3pm.
Join in as we start on a new project of creating some beautiful and engaging #signage in the orchard. Together we will be working on sanding, painting and varnishing wooden signs to label each fruit tree in the orchard! Artistic skills are welcome but not required.

You can register for all volunteer shifts on the Gleaning Hub:

The Monday sign making #workparty is followed with an afternoon orchard work party - we need help with pruning fruit trees, weeding & general orchard care duties.

#MomsAgainstRacism Hosts - Be A Kid: Cookie Decorating & Bouncy Castle!
Come out for June’s Be A Kid Event - a fun day just for #BIPOCkids and their families with cookie decorating, games, and a bouncy castle!

McTavish Academy Of Art
1720 McTavish Rd.
Sat, Jun 28, 2025 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM

We’re also inviting all our MAR families to join the fun from 4:00 – 6:00 pm for our 3rd annual MAR Family Picnic!

Minimum contribution: $10 per family.

Open to #children who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or a Child of Colour) and their immediate families/caregivers. White presenting kids with racial hertitage and white family members/caregivers are warmly welcomed.

The Be a Kid program supports our members, the public, and their #racialized #kids in creating #community. This program will help to create opportunities for Black, Indigenous and #ChildrenOfColour to connect with each other, in a psychologically and culturally safer environment, while participating in an activity they may otherwise not.

Here's the event slideshow.

1st #NorthAfrican #Cookout at Fed Farm in #Vicwest. Absolutely fabulous community event! Lots of delicious #Moroccan & #Tunisian foods were cooked & given to guests to eat. Many stories shared. Beautiful acoustic music was played. Wonderful new local BIPOC connections were made & some lovely reunions occurred too. I had a really great time!

Most folks who came out had similar displacement backgrounds. Several of us are war survivors who lost our family homes overseas & are far from many family members(my Mom's side is stuck in remote offgrid village) who are still living in our homelands. It was good for our souls to be around fellow POC diaspora. We understand each other better than others do because of similar life experiences from before coming to Canada. We also faced similar struggles/racism when we came to Canada as refugees of wars.

I am looking forward to helping them out more at some future community connecting events & grassroots projects in the near future.

I'm processing all the photos/vids from yesterday now. Then going for a mental wellness walk in nearby forest. Napping after lunch. Visiting one client in afternoon. Getting back to personal communications when back from client appointment.

I have a couple of phone meetings today to discuss creating a #cultural #SeedLibrary (separate from the LifeCycles Victoria Seed Library project). The BIPOC specific seeds library would be only for food crop seeds from our far away homelands that aren't really grown or known about here. There's many of us POC who've been displaced from our homelands & far from our traditional food crops. There's a gap with seed libraries here - all the ones currently available are colonial & don't include many POC traditional food crop seeds. I want to work with local, #BIPOC #diaspora folks to create the first cultural seed library on #VancouverIsland. I met several fellow displaced POC war survivors yesterday & there's a lot of interest in this idea. I want to work on making it a reality. BIPOC #FoodSecurity initiative.

But you know what’s worse than failing?
Not trying at all.

Because if there’s even one person out there who’s also feeling isolated…who’s also feeling like they’ve lost something vital in all this noise…who’s also ready to build something better—then it’s already worth it.

This is the risk.

This is the work.

This is the invitation.

Let’s start over—together.
