The preliminary results of the #SEXLAVES project, coord. by Xurxo Ayan Vila and Carlos Otero, have been published in World Archaeology.
The project focuses on the archaeological study of materials found in #brothels in NW Spain that were in operation at the end of the 20th century.
Xurxo Ayán published a paper in the dossier "Contemporary Archaeology, politics of memory and local communities: a tricky mixture?" of the journal Archeologia Postmedievale.
The paper shows the limitations and conditions imposed by the traumatic past when developing an Archaeology project focused on the #EstadoNovo period.

Karpin Astoreka captured a video summary of the first phase of the project #RAILWAY1936, coordinated by Xurxo Ayán.
It shows the difficulty of the search for António Ribeiro's grave site in the context of a landscape highly modified by the Anthropocene, with intensive planting of pine forests, very different from the landscape of 1936.

The #RAILWAY1936 project began today. Directed by archaeologist Xurxo Ayán, has as its main objective the location of the grave and exhumation of railway worker António Ribeiro, assassinated by the Franco regime in 1936 in Castrelo do Val (Galicia).

The fact is that this phenomenon is actually huge. It's in surprising places, and there is some very interesting #archaeology and #ContemporaryArchaeology research ongoing into the history of this and actually into the renewed practice in a modern context.

This is from my very long term project on the Forth Bridges in Central Scotland, called simply “The Bridges”, which was eventually ‘completed” in 2014. quote marks because a few years later a 3rd bridge was built, and I’m only just coming round to the idea that I should examine the project again.
I used to call this #documentaryphotography but doing my MA, I now consider it a form of #ContemporaryArchaeology
