How going to work in DC feels. Heh heh
The number of state #NationalGuard #troops detailed to Trump’s effort from the 6 states — #Louisiana, #Mississippi, #Tennessee, #WestVirginia, #SouthCarolina & #Ohio — amount to >1,100. Governors said they were responding to requests from the #Trump admin.
It is not clear why the admin requested additional support. About 800 troops have already been called up from the #WashingtonDC, Guard & have had a limited assigned role so far in Trump’s 10-day-old attempted takeover of #DC #law enforcement.
#Washington has been informed about the intent for the #NationalGuard to now be #armed, though it has not received details about when that could happen or where armed Guard members could be deployed in #DC….
It would be a departure from what the #Pentagon & #Army have said about the #troops being unarmed. The Army said last week that “weapons are available if needed but will remain in the armory.”

#Louisiana is now the sixth #Republican-led state to authorize #NationalGuard #troop deployment to #DC as part of #Trump *show of force*

Mississippi is now the fourth state to send armed National Guard troops to D.C. under the guise of a nonexistent “emergency.”
This is a hostile takeover of an American city by a fascist regime composed of white supremacists, Christian nationalists and billionaires.
We must unite to save democracy.
Here are 3 things you can do to help DC right NOW:
Ask your reps to support the termination resolution (freedcproject.org/termination).
Pressure governors from WV, OH, SC, MS, LA, AL & TN to not send troops.
Fly DC flags, post #FreeDC signs, & MAKE NOISE until this hostile takeover is over.

“Rosa Brooks, a former D.C. Metropolitan reserve police officer who teaches now at Georgetown Law School: ‘I think what we're seeing is the effort to habituate people to the idea that you're going to have armed federal personnel in your business, asking questions, stopping you, and that's just truly scary,’”

From @washingtonpost on 7 hrs ago:
Federal agents violently detained a food delivery driver as he emerged from a D.C. coffee shop Saturday morning.
The incident captured on video showed the officers throwing him to the ground and beating him before sweeping him away in an unmarked vehicle.

The Sandwich Bandito - a new #DC icon.
It sure wasn't by swarming military troops all over the streets of #DC.
It was turned around b/c the crack cocaine epidemic gave way to ECONOMIC REVITALIZATION PROJECTS.
Neighborhood improvement efforts & new business investment transformed neighborhoods, reversed urban flight.
Giving ppl a decent chance at a job &/or starting a business + living in decent circumstances is what did it.
Gentrification doesn't have to force ppl out of their homes & neighborhoods. It can be made affordable.

So now Trump et al claim the aim of their fascist military takeover of Washington, #DC is to "Make Washington Safe Again."
So, without debating if slogans playing on the MAGA trope aren't really tired, already -
When in the given past was DC "safe" in their judgment? Back in the 1980s & early 90s when it was called the Murder Capital of the US?
But DC is no more the Murder Capital of the US. Far from it.
And just what turned that around ?

Y’all, fascism isn’t coming, it’s armed and on the streets right now.
During the agents’ violent attack on a delivery worker Saturday morning in #DC, bystanders repeatedly demanded the agents share their badge numbers. One of them—his face fully obscured by a black balaklava—eventually shot back, “Do I have to answer to you?”
It was a moment as brazen as it was astonishing. We’ve long known that federal agencies operating under Trump consider themselves above or outside the law. But to hear it stated so confidently, so plainly, that the federal government does not have to answer to the people who pay their salaries was jarring.
“You guys are ruining this country. You know that, right?” one bystander said to the agents at one point during the incident. An agent, ironically clad in a rainbow face mask, replied “Liberals already ruined it.”

THE #CONSTITUTION may give #DictatorDon the power to send armed troops into #DC, but the intended purpose would be to fight an INVASION by a foreign military attacking the capitol city, not to use as an auxiliary police force.
The #Sunday Shows kept showing scenes of life in DC *right now*…
Tourists, people shopping, JOGGERS… DC isn't a "warzone", and definitely not the "Hellscape" #CreamsicleCaligula & his #GOP #Cult keeps describing it as. #IOKIYAR #IfADemocratHadDoneThis (Check Alt text.)
Glad to see other civilians filming the #police at H & 8th ST NE. It looked like #DC metropolitan police in uniform, so hopefully not part of the Trump #checkpoint stuff, but documenting in case.
#DictatorDon is going hog-wild in DC sending Armed Troops into the streets of a major American city (using false claims of rampant crime as justification) b/c he has unfettered control of #DC.
PAY ATTENTION, b/c this is what he'd do in EVERY #Democratically controlled city if he could (and his SCotUS & lapdog #GOP #Congress would happily give him the power to do.)

We need to address this as an insult to the National Guard, who are being used as political props by the President and governors. They joined to serve their country and are now being turned into playthings of a political operation. It’s a slap in the face. An abuse of power and abuse of military service members being turned on citizens.
