Hey fedi, I want to move off Google services for email at some point soon but with Proton Mail and/or their CEO’s statement earlier this year I’m skeptical about using their platform.
What are the best competitors atm? And what are their advantages and disadvantages?

Did any of us manage to replace the Google authenticator app? Finding an alternative is less of an issue, but how can current codes be migrated over to the new app? #degoogle #degoogleyourlife #buyeuropean
@i0null I deleted my LinkedIn a few weeks ago...unsolicited emails and calls from security product vendors have dried up. Its never gotten me a job. Its never been a great way to contact me. I was really nervous I would feel regret but I haven't. Github my be next on my #demicrosoft #degoogle #privacy journey
New blog post!
In which I talk in detail how I deployed Nextcloud locally in my homelab using LXD and NextcloudPi.
I go through the whole process of setting up LXD, importing the NCP image, installing, configuring, and scheduling backups for my own personal cloud.

An Social Media muss ich noch arbeiten. Hier fehlen mir leider zu viele Leute.
As promised, we compiled a list of some European tech companies to meet your privacy needs
https://blog.internxt.com/european-tech-companies/
There’s something for everyone: chat assistants, project management tools, operating systems... you get the idea.
We’d love to hear more suggestions, anything we missed (thanks for the suggestions already), and any tools you use and would recommend (Chat GPT alternatives?)
Relearning IMAP conventions and unlearning Gmail, things I really would like to keep:
- multiple From identities with their own outgoing servers in one inbox
- labels instead of folders (because that allows categorizing same email many times)
Haven't yet found a service which does either.
#degoogle
#degoogle continues ....
If you're looking for a great alternative to Google Translate, DeepL is a top pick.
I've been using it for a while now, and it's impressively accurate.
Major European news sites start talking about the trend to #deGoogle and to #BuyEuropean
Thanks, Markus Böhm and Dennis Hoogeveen, for the mentions.

Hello everyone,
We are going to write a blog about European tech companies, alternatives to Google Maps, Calendar, messaging apps and everything else.
Any recommendations you would like to see added?
Another interesting thing is about the push notifications.
Threema Push is a new feature that allows users to use Threema for Android without relying on Google's proprietary push service. This is particularly beneficial for users of de-googled Android variants, such as /e/OS, who want to maintain their online privacy.
One of the weaknesses of many privacy-friendly services is the need to use Google's push service. Good job, Threema!

Maurits Martijn heeft mijn reactie op dit stuk uitgelicht. Helaas alleen door leden te lezen, dus bij deze voor iedereen:
Lol I got a cheap Android to house the apps that my employer forces me to use (I'm not putting them on my real phone, obviously), and after powering on the device for the first time and spending like an hour stripping all the permissions, Google won't let me turn it off without signing into a Google account. The power button just brings up a sign-in screen - you can back out of it, but there's no way to turn the phone off.
Interacting with Google makes me feel the same way interacting with abusive family members and partners has. What fucking creepy, coercively controlling stalkers Googlers are.
I love GrapheneOS so much
Just use OpenStreetMap instead of google they said.
In my attempt to #degoogle, I've gotten a #protrondrive account. But I've hit a bit of a feature snag. I need to be able to open and edit spreadsheet and text documents from this online storage on my #android device. First attempt was with #onlyoffice but quickly found it doesn't have a way to access proton drive. I see people online asking for this... But no go atm. Anyone else suggest work arounds or #foss alternatives? Been eyeing #cryptpad as well.
