Dear Friends,
These two trees, a beech on the left, a walnut on the right have been objects of admiration for some time.
Yesterday, the sky was this gray.
Recalling this moment -
the cool air moving above and around,
through my nose, into my lungs, then back out
head upward - breathe, click, breathe.
Stating the obvious - all of this is a miracle.

My photo from 2019 shows a #treetrunk in the #Berlin #winter, which has not fallen off all its dried #autumnleaves. In autumn, many #deciduous #trees cork the xylem connections of their leaves so that they do not evaporate more water than the tree can absorb through its roots. The #withered #fallenleaves serve as a #microhabitat for specialized #decomposing #soilorganisms. If old leaves remain on the tree, the organisms there will begin #decomposition processes.

#Dipelta #floribunda - #deciduous #flowering #shrub - native to Central #China, widely #cultivated as #pollinators attractant #plant. Ours is now over 12 feet tall & loaded with #flowers.
#Deciduous #tree cover is expected to increase in North American #boreal #forests with climate warming and wildfire. This might generate biophysical #cooling via increased land surface #albedo. From 1992 to 2015, however, a small net decrease in deciduous fraction was observed in US and Canada and thus no negative biophysical feedbacks on climate warming can be seen for that period:
