We do not aim for #deltachat to be another social media app. No #ai summaries or suggestions. No public directory of contacts. No discovery via outside identifiers (mobile phone or email). Just you and your contacts privately messaging, in a solid simple user interface on all platforms. End-to-End encryption enforced on two layers. #chatmail relays know and retain nothing, no content or metadata. #webxdc apps allow for custom interactions on top of chats.
Contributors and donations welcome!
I think the biggest thing I want in #DeltaChat is a "unified inbox" where, unless I specifically exclude it, chats for all of my profiles are listed. Any duplicate contacts would show the profile icon on the list, and if I have multiple accounts in the same group for some reason, it would let me switch between them in the composer.
Seems like it would be rather simple? There's probably some implementation detail I'm missing.
(For a more advanced implementation: you'd be able to start with one easy unified inbox, and make other unified inboxes if you need to, selecting and deselecting as you see fit. Mostly the idea would be you can have multiple personal ones, multiple work ones, maybe a few for volunteer groups: maybe some of them use an online name, maybe you have a deadname on one profile and a chosen name on another, maybe you have individual profiles for each group you join... So you might have your personal ones grouped, your work ones grouped, and your volunteer ones grouped... but for most people, myself included, a singular unified inbox with exclusion should work just fine!)
@Cnoceda explains his way of using @delta and org-mode for collecting things on the go:

He adapts the deltachat inbox bot to his needs, just like the free software gods intended. Great stuff!
@xoagray Yeah, that's what they recommend these days, use their ChatMail server or one of the ones available on the web, I think its slightly more secure than using email.
Hmm, thinking about it, @thunderbird do you support it?
Just published my post on DeltaChat and Orgmode ️ It’s long, but I felt it had to be this way. In the future I’ll be adding new features and will keep you posted.

Signal and Matrix were founded in popular opposition to the email system but End-to-End encrypted instant messaging via emails works now, and reliably, with #deltachat V2 app releases, and with #chatmail relays forming a growing secure email network that minimizes metadata and enforces TLS and E2EE messaging.
You can't really argue with working code, can you?
Contrary to popular belief SMTP and DKIM and IMAP are no holy ingredients and can be improved upon btw. See eg https://github.com/chatmail/relay/issues/487
DeltaTouch v2.9.0 is out, bringing the security upgrade as described in the Delta Chat blog https://delta.chat/en/2025-08-04-encryption-v2
Some UI changes such as shortcuts to recently used apps in chats are still to be implemented in DeltaTouch, but all the security/encryption related points in the blog post apply to DeltaTouch as well.
Version numbering has been aligned with the official clients, see https://chaos.social/@delta/114972264530346684
Several people noticed and wonder about our new #deltachat version numbering scheme: it changed for all apps! #chatmail Core rust library uses 2.X with incrementing X. And apps use 2.X.Y with Y being a numbered release for a core version. Therefore, any app release embeds the core library version which is helpful for understanding and debugging interoperability issues between clients. Others pointed out this is close to "pride versioning" ... We are fine with that :) https://pridever.org/
Anyone using the ArcaneChat Android app for Delta Chat?
I downloaded itvfrom F-Droid some time ago but looked on Google Play today and realised that the version numbers are completely different, even though both have been updated fairly regularly.
Anyone know why? I haven't yet contacted the developer to ask, but might do so out of curiosity.
V2 #deltachat is rolling out after weeks of internal testing, a major milestone revising how end-to-end encryption works and bringing more beautiful contact and group profiles, direct access to chat-shared apps in the title bar and a "new email" action with setting a subject for those using a classic server.
Best of all, users and developers don't need to co-ordinate anything for upgrading to V2 despite the massive security rework behind the scenes :)
Anyone who expects me to install yet another app for their garbage can kindly fuck off!
I won't but seeing folks who actually take privacy serious and thus have their #cameras removed from their #Android device struggle makes me fucking angry.
Personally, I wished @delta / #deltaChat had a plugin for like @thunderbird / #Thunderbird so that it can be used as #Chat in it and sort the inbox. Would make it the superior solution for #corporations that already have #eMail #Archival setup for legal compliance…
@stavvers even better yet: #Deltachat
Got enough rice and beans/lentils?
Enough to feed not just your house but others, too? & for how long?
In other words, what are you doing today to set yourself up to resist tomorrow?
#Resilience is an act of #Resistance
What about off-grid communications?
Like #HamRadio #FRS #LoRa #Meshtastic & encrypted messaging like #DeltaChat #Matrix & #Signal
