At a crazy panel on the #AIAct at
at HPI Potsdamm
Meta (Harmen Zell, echoing Nick Clegg) double down on hating ALL EU reg, AWS (Carsten Kestermann) say it's great / reduces uncertainty as does Armand Zorn MdB who negotiated the AIA, and is superb here. Yet Philipp Hacker (an academic) is also beating up on EU vs US regulation, what??

AWS's Kerstermann is really doubling down on how great German competence in #digitalGovernance is and demanding they do the job they're capable of.

Attending maybe the best AI Ethics event I've ever seen, it's in a city I never heard of before I got my tickets. Edit: Video now available here! uttv.ee/naita?id=36108

#AIEthics "Federal copyright law has not matured to protect a person’s voice from AI, and local laws vary by state, experts told The Post. A bipartisan group of senators floated a bill last year aimed at stopping people from using AI to reproduce a musician’s voice or actor’s likeness, except in certain cases such as for parody. Tennessee in March passed a similar law." #digitalGovernance #AIRegulation 3/3

@katestarbird Thank you for your outstanding work.

There's a documented, legislated way for how to deal with private innovations becoming critical infrastructure. They should be identified as such, as a utility, by the government, and then subject to increased regulation to compensate for the decreased impact of market forces on such entities. The US innovated this as part of our antitrust legislation. The vandalism against #twitter is an ongoing US govt failure. #digitalGovernance #AIEthics

There’s an important conversation about #democracy, #crowdsourcing & #openAI happening on Xitter. I get that many people here think continuing to disseminate there is wrong. I agree to an extent, but IMO it’s a greater wrong to facilitate the evisceration of a critical channel of political communication, cf my pinned toots. But anyway you can disseminate here, I’m just asking you to read the conversation there.

X (formerly Twitter)Joanna J Bryson (@j2bryson) on XI'm sorry, I don't know anything about this, but it sounds super worrying to me. Anyone seen any academic commentary on it? #AIEthics

@danyork @BernhardHofmann @avirr This is a problem we really need to address, these products are also public goods — only part of the value comes from the platform. Google+ was shut down to avoid thinking hard about how to solve Facebook’s 2016-2016 problems, exactly when a better, more secure version of Facebook was in demand. That’s just unacceptable behaviour by what is essentially a utility. #digitalGovernance

Please do not delete your twitter account! Twitter was essential infrastructure. It should have been identified as a utility and its sale barred. It still has our history, it was once used by over 90% of elected officials globally, and it presently has much wider reach than the new platforms though that may change. IMPO, it is still a resource worth fighting for control over – in courts – as we establish what adequate #digitalGovernance looks like. cf. lawinsider.com/dictionary/esse

@dangillmor @1br0wn I hope it will accelerate federal intervention. Twitter is essential political communication infrastructure, and there are a lot of political crises going on globally RIGHT NOW. Even if it was badly architected and it's good for us to be airbussing its boeing, casually allowing the destruction of essential infrastructure constructed through vast public effort as well as private is an error. #birdsite #journalism #digitalGovernance
