@signalapp It's not #disinfo when one points out that you demand #PII aka. #PhoneNumbers from Users and that is literally a architectural vulnerability, alongside your #proprietary & #Centralized #Infrastructure.

Not to mention the lack of @torproject / #Tor support with an #OnionService or the willingness to fulfill #cyberfacist "Embargoes" or shilling a #Shitcoin #Scam named #MobileCoin!

  • #KYC is the illicit activity!!!

And don't get me started on the #cyberfacism that is #CloudAct.

  • If you were secure, criminals would've used your platform so hard, it would've been shutdown like #EncroChat and #SkyECC.

I may nit have allvthe.evidence yet, but #Signal stenches like #ANØM: #Honeypot-esque!

You use XMPP+OMEMO because you think it's neat.

I use XMPP+OMEMO because all centralized, single-vendor and/or single-provider messengers are inherently garbage, collect PII like phone numbers for no "legitimate reason" and don't offer proper End-to-End - Encryption with self-custody of all the keys, making them either honeypots or prime targets for warrants.

  • We are not the same!
Infosec.SpaceKevin Karhan :verified: (@kkarhan@infosec.space)@evacide@hachyderm.io NO, YOU CANNOT USE @signalapp@mastodon.world WITHOUT A PHONE NUMBER!!! * They still require a phone number as they still do restrict the functionality of their App based off the phone number given! Also we've all seen that #centralized, #SingleVendor & #SingleProvider solutions are inherently bad - so why should anyone use #Signal over #XMPP+#OMEMO or XMPP+#PGP/MIME ??? #Signal, like every provider in the #USA, is subject to #CloudAct ** and will obviously hand over the #metadata they collected without legitimate interest if told to do so. *** After all, clients like @monocles@monocles.social ' #monoclesChat **** make XMPP w/ OMEMO and PGP/MIME extremely user-friendly... Im many juristictions, you cannot legally obtain an anonymous prepaid SIM legally! ***** - - - Sources: * https://social.tchncs.de/@kuketzblog/111968247576555678 ** https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CLOUD_Act *** https://web.archive.org/web/20220112020000/https://twitter.com/thegrugq/status/1085614812581715968 **** https://f-droid.org/en/packages/de.monocles.chat/ ***** https://infosec.space/@kkarhan/111968383793566135

This goes back to the Trojan Horse & its warning.

Yes, making a horse that soldiers can hide in and then spring out of is ingenious.

But it’s useless unless you can make your enemy accept the thing you’ve primed. Coordinated & wholesale.

And orgs should know better.

Things that #UK still exchanges data about and works alongside #EU post #Brexit

* #weather forecasting and monitoring (including climate research)

* #RoadSafety and traffic regulations

* #drugs prohibition (during EU membership UK was viewed as a source of good practice, especially for testing of drug use by drivers)

* law enforcement and #surveillance in general (consider the fallout from #Encrochat )

so the gammons have gained exactly 0 extra freedoms, and are even angrier..

@AnarchoNinaWrites OFC!

In fact, all those services stench like the #Honeypots they are and I'd call LEAs to be "criminally incompetent" if they didn't sabotage it [#EncroChat] or did actually run it from day 0 [#ANØM]...

Cuz when push comes to shove, they'll all rat out their users!

@atomicpoet @zakiuem even Signal and Briar ain't good.

All #centralized and/or #SingleVendor / #SingleProvider Messenger Services are inherently insecure as they'll be obligated to comply with #Govware #backdoor requirements aka. " #LawfulInterception "...

Otherwise they'd be illegal and forcibly shut down by LEAs - just like #EncroChat was [which was also #insecure for the aforementioned reasons + being #CCSS and not #FLOSS thus not auditable]...

Heard a talk tonight by a policeman involved in the big drug gang take-down after the French military cracked #Encrochat encryption in 2020. And it seems to me that not only was this technological breakthrough necessary for the police's success. #Technology is in fact necessary for the intricate day to day operations of a successful #crime gang.

In other words, it's not that the police were lucky that the gang chose to use mobile phones. The gang could not have chosen to operate without them.

In June 2020, police announced they'd hacked the EncroChat encrypted phone network. Thousands of serious criminals are now behind bars because of it.

But across Europe, legal challenges against the hacking—one of the biggest police-led hacks ever—are reaching the continent's top courts. Lawyers claim evidence has been obscured and data sharing between nations wasn't legal. There are bigger implications for encryption in general though
