I need to actually get back to my #EnemyAce fansite...but the things I have on the docket for that is time-confusing--fun but time-consuming, due to additional research and info verification. And my head has not been in that headspace for a while, and won't be for the near future. 
An argument could be made that every Golden Age or Silver Age #DCComics series will show its hoary old age in at least some way, when scrutinized today. Nevertheless, I believe Bob Kanigher's classic "Enemy Ace" chronicles hold up better than just about any other mainline DC material from any era, even now...excluding content related to Vertigo or other offshoot imprints.
Written in the first person, Mr. Kanigher's work is an extended character study of a fictional World War I pilot named Hans von Hammer. As the titular enemy ace, he proves himself to be, in my opinion, the best of all traditional "DC Universe" characters (er, a backhanded compliment? it's largely because this IP hasn't been over-exposed/rebooted/retconned, or otherwise badly fractured across decades).
Intriguingly, Hans von Hammer's adventures are quasi-existential. They reveal how he has the soul of a poet, often ruminating on "'the killer sky.'" Leading me to think he could have been almost a sage, if he hadn't been embroiled in war. In addition, the moderately downbeat stories include striking aerial artwork by Joe Kubert. Very good stuff, all around.
Will you go along with my choice? Or "Doom Patrol"? Or something else entirely?

It's been a whirlwind and today I thought on what to do next in terms of big fandom things. I've been a broken record about updating my #EnemyAce fansite, so instead mayhaps the help can be given in helping me decide what to archive next 
September 17th's "seasons change"!
That one list paired these two was very funny but also very cute: two strangers in a strange land, and I do like friendos of the grumpy/sunshine kind!
As a pumpkin spice hater though, I thought it apt to have the both of them drink it. Ishtar suggested it--and Hans...maybe likes it?! What is this witchery of flavor of the modern age?!

September Twelve's "with the title "subdivisions"
...Yeah, I had no idea for this one either. Only thing I've heard subdivisions in is in a military context, so that's how I drew this one. Hans thinking he's being very helpful with his planning for S.O.N.G--except some don't think so, it seems! 
I added Miku because I had the funny idea of Hans trusting Hibiki so much that he thinks she can take enemies all by herself. (I mean, she can, but you know, there's a limit?!)
I couldn't fit it into this idea--and to be fair, this would only happen after a few months in this scenario--but I came up with short nicknames for some of the girls that Hans would use 
He'd call them "valkyries" (which is slight in-joke haha) the way he'd call his men "my fledglings" (yes, you read that right), but Shirabe and Kirika would be "little bunny" and "little witch", for example.

I dabble in other parts of #DCComics fandom, mainly the #TangentComics publishing line. I've also posted stuff about #LimbusCompany but I don't talk about it much on here in comparison to the others.
Most of my fandom experience is done "alone," as I always tended to do fandom alone while growing up. (I got on the internet late too.) But I'm active in some of the fandoms above through Discord at times. I'm mainly a lurker but I like seeing what people are into (or seeing if they know the thing :eyes: )

#EnemyAce fansite, Höllenreiter, has updated! Firstly, finally the creators page dedicated to Kanigher and Kubert has been filled out! Still lots to do for it but the basis is good enough as it's the transcription of biographies found in DC Archive books. Somewhat bittersweet to add the addendum of Kubert's death as well as his wife's

Hans during 1961. I had planned to write up a short "fic", pair it with the mood. But I'm so tired, I just closed down Photoshop again instead of writing it out. Consider it an IOU that I eventually will get to before I die, as I have thoughts on Hans re:Berlin Wall...

Before the year is out, I'll post this 2022 art. Friends and I were doing art challenges based on a color palette.I thought this one was perfect for Hans.
While I've gotten better at drawing men in recent years, Hans is one who often never turned out well, no matter how much I try. This was probably the first time he looks close to decent by my hand. I still am so proud of how this looks.
