I wanted to see if #FernFriday could be a thing? I was walking in the Beauregard Town Neighborhood in Downtown #BatonRouge, #Louisiana when I came across these Resurrection #Ferns, Pleopeltis polypodioides, growing on the base of a tree. I thought they looked photogenic in the little patches of #moss they were growing in. The recent rains have insured they are well hydrated and unfurled. #Mosstodon probably also applies here.

A sight for sori.
From an old farm where I volunteer--this is a very old stone foundation to a barn that's no longer standing.

Hard fern (Blechnum spicant), an evergreen fern that thrives in moist, acidic soils and is an ancient woodland indicator species in the UK. These are growing in Pondhead Inclosure in the #NewForest, a fenced-in area of woodland being managed for #biodiversity by the Pondhead Conservation Trust - entirely by volunteers. This is also a great place to see #butterflies, particularly woodland specialists like fritillaries & white admirals
The delicate, lacy new fern fronds of the Japanese Painted Fern are stunning in burgundy in the spring garden. These lacy, red stemmed beauties are one of my favorites as the wine burgundy and olive fronds are quite attractive.

I think it’s a #Blechnum maybe B. appendiculatum?
Some of my house plants spend the summer outside, like this Clivia. The nice thing about that is what surprise they bring back into the house in the fall: usually a beautiful fern, like this one, or a liverwort, or a moss.
One of the many species of ferns on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Photo taken last summer.
The Groundhog said spring is coming early!!! My favorite walk is along the Speed River in Guelph Ontario Canada where you will see wildlife, birds and wonderful wildflowers. The Dame's Rocket in blue/violet growing in a lush Ostrich Fern patch is quite eye catching and they sure do compliment each other.
