That is cancerous, lung wrecking, CO2 filled, choking smoke.
Russian forests are burning too.

You can’t say it often enough:
Peatlands store roughly twice as much #carbon as all the world’s #forests – despite covering only one-tenth of the land area.
This makes them the most efficient natural #carbon sinks per square meter on Earth.
Protecting them is essential in the fight against #climatechange.

"The Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO) and the University of Southern Denmark, as part of the SPADE Horizon Europe project, have developed Skyplanter, an ingenious, non-invasive drone-mounted planting system that firmly deposits seedlings into the ground in ten seconds or less."

Treekeepers The Race for a Forested Future by Lauren E. Oakes, 2024
“A frank, probing, but ultimately hopeful book” (Elizabeth Kolbert) that shows how the path from climate change to a habitable future winds through the world’s forests.

Blessed thistle; Eeyore eats this stuff and so do I. It is fairly labour intensive and you do need "trim scissors" to cut off the prickles but it's safe, easy to identify, and it tends to be plentiful because it is, after all, an invasive plant.

A new dataset and analysis released by World Resources Institute finds global tropical forest loss jumped to a record high in 2024, with 6.7 million hectares worldwide.
In total, the area of forest lost in 2024 is nearly the size of Panama.
For the first time, fire, not agriculture, was the primary driver of primary tropical forest loss, with Latin America badly hit.

This past weekend I met up with @morgancarmont to go explore the forests of #VancouverIsland. To say we had an epic weekend would be an understatement.
Amongst our many adventures, we found a new #oldgrowthforest to explore and I had to take a photo in front of one - the size of them is just incomprehensible otherwise. For reference, I am over 187cm tall. This single Big Leaf Maple is easily 5m+ diameter at its base.

#Fires cause record loss of tropical forests in climate threat
The world's tropical #forests, which provide a crucial buffer against #ClimateChange, disappeared faster than ever recorded last year, new satellite analysis suggests.
Researchers estimate that 67,000 sq km (26,000 sq mi) of these pristine, old-growth forests were lost in 2024 – an area nearly as large as the Republic of Ireland, or 18 football pitches a minute.

"Before Homo sapiens arrived, Europe's #forests were not dense and dark but shaped by open and light-rich woodland landscapes. A new study shows that most native forest plants are adapted to semi-open, light-filled woodlands—formed over millions of years by the influence of large, free-ranging herbivores such as bison, elk, and wild horses"
