Is it a hot take to say that the special stages in every Sonic game are terrible? I'm not sure if I truly hate them or just hate how they interrupt the flow of normal game play.

The least bad ones to me are the ones in Chaos and Triple Trouble, because they are basically just self contained normal levels with a time limit.

I also like CD's special stages because you can completely ignore them and look for generators instead.

Oof, so this game took way longer to master than planned, only because the achievement maker set some frustrating challenges.

Anyway, this is a cool game I found on the #GameGear
Crystal Warriors.

Imagine Fire Emblem, but the affinity of the character actually means something beyond the support mechanics. Each class has one of four elements, and they are effective or weak against another one. It is a surprisingly tactical game because of this. The level cap is 9, and hitting that cap is pretty much a given and won't make (most of) your characters overpowered

It features perma-death for your characters too and a weird monster taming mechanic, which I seldom used because the monsters very quickly become too weak to be useful, except as meat shields, and even then 99% of the time I'd rather tank damage to retaliate with higher damage.

Worth a look at for anyone who enjoys strategic RPGs and also a bit of a challenge.

Bit of a special day today.
With this release, all 19 issues of Sega Force are now available to download.
This series was followed by Sega Force Mega, but I only have a couple of issues from that sadly.

Sega Force 19 - July 1993 (UK) has just been added to the preliminary magazine catalogue.

This issue as well as all the others, can be downloaded here:

Enjoy! 😚

I think enough time has passed since I last tooted anything #Aleste related.

Specifically, to gush about GG Aleste 3 on the #GameGear

Modern games on old hardware are a fascinating subject, and I should really should dive deeper into it.

Anyway. For #VGMWednesday, I present the track from stage 2 of GG Aleste 3,
『Last Messiah』

This is probably my favourite track from this particular game, but the OST as a whole is pretty good. It really shows off the sound compabilities that the GameGear had.

If you like #shmups, you really should check out GG Aleste 3 and Aleste as a series, especially the GG games and Super Aleste on the SNES.
GG3, for me, was a tough but rewarding playthrough. It served up a decent challenge, but I am not a competent shmup player.
