Continuing with the run-down of what's happening at Saturday's BLAG Meet (bl.ag/meet), I'm very excited to hear from @ihazrabies and how she uses digital tools to find and view old ghost signs.

Kasey's San Francisco Ghost Sign Mapping Project (sfghostsigns.com/) is an inspiration to me, and it was a pleasure to publish her 'Ghost Sign Corner' piece in BLAG 06 (bl.ag/06).

Kasey is on at around 5pm London time: bl.ag/meet.

Can anyone confirm that this ghost sign is for the French Vabé brand, owned by Byrrh?

I can't make out all of the slogan in yellow, but the 'Catalan' line would fit with Rivesaltes, where Vabé originates from, which is just north of Perpignan, and therefore in French Catalonia.

Here's the location on streetview, where the motion of the camera has created a new brand: Wabé

Là où Gray’s Inn Road rejoint King’s Cross, un somptueux ghost sign signale l’emplacement d’un ancien fabricant de poids et balances. En commentaire, un billet de blog qui tente de le dater en retraçant son histoire. Juillet 2023.

A flurry of orders has taken my stock of Ghost Signs: A London Story to less than 30 [Edit: Now 10].

It's not being reprinted, unless another publisher steps up, so grab one while you can.

Thank you to @RoyReed for getting on board with the project which helped me escape the depths of my pandemic despair, Max at Isola Press for taking the plunge as publisher, Eve for the outstanding design, and everyone else that contributed research and pictures.

I took these ghostsign pics last year and never posted them. The Hotel Travelers in downtown Vallejo, as shot from the top floor of the Odd Fellows lodge across the street. I'm not sure the age of the Ghirardelli sign, but the Coke sign is probably from the 1960's. #ghostsigns #sfba

The cart entrance to the old Crown Mill on Washington Street in the Anderston Area of Glasgow. This Italianate building was constructed in 1862, but all that is now left is the boarded up ground floor. As well as the ghost sign of the mill's name over the door, you can also see the cast iron guards on either side which helped protect the corners from being damanged by carts bumping into them when passing in and out.
