@minimalparts And it's wreaking socio-economic havoc throughout the #globalSouth and among the most vulnerable in the #globalNorth. I'm not an engineer or even a linguist. I'm just a sociology-trained autistic citizen, surviving like she can on social aid. But I will worry about AI, because this things are being implemanted a bit everywhere as a way to increase #mass-surveillance manifolds through automated monitoring according to completely prejudiced criteria, leading to horror situation.

Late #Spring in #Pakistan, & the government is already considering shutting schools for an early summer break due to the #heatwave.

Astonishing: the Gov is admitting temperature surges of 4-7C (7-13F) above the current heatwave are to occur in the coming few days.

This is what I kept warning! An avg rise of 1.5C means swings of 5-10C making that happen, and in heatwaves or cold snaps thats deadly!

@ProjectFearlessness #Pakistan replaced anywhere between 20-40% of its energy production with rooftop #solar in 2024 alone.

Its been so rapid, despite entrenched fossil lobbies, the Gov has had to cancel future coal and gas power projects, and renegotiate contracts with current ones to lower their prices or just shutter them

No amount of lobbying or narrative building can beat cold hard science and economics.

This latest trade war prompted me to revisit my notes as an #Indymedia correspondent at the 2001 WTO Ministerial in Doha, where I witnessed the launch of the Doha Round firsthand. It kicked off years of predatory negotiations that left many Global South countries (and billions of people) vulnerable to what we’re seeing now: abusive tariffs weaponized to extract even more from those with the least. I'll be publishing a full article in the next few days.

And yes, the #Trump #Regime is dellusional thinking the #USA is irreplaceable when in fact it most certainly is!

#Manufacturers like "P.R." #China, #Vietnam, #Japan, #India et. al. are quick to #pivot to other #markets like the #EU and the #GlobalSouth.

  • Just like penalizing #tariffs and #taxes in #Brazil didn't really get them much #industrialization and instead merely made certain items and products just unaffordably expensive to import and buy.

The matter of the fact is that this ain't 1945: the #US needs the #world more than vice-versa, espechally since the world moves on and both #EU and #NATO will continue to exist, thrive and expand even without the USA!

No, you don’t want the US to collapse. Too many countries depend on it, and a sudden breakdown would create chaos. If you come from the Global South, you might feel more empathy for those harmed by American foreign policy for several decades. But if the world’s most powerful military and economy slides into dictatorship - or worse - the consequences will hit everyone, especially weaker economies and vulnerable people.
