Started garden prep over the weekend. I usually start way too many varieties of peppers and tomatoes, so this year I tried to show some restraint. #garden #gardening #urbangarden #raisedbedgardening #backyardgarden #growyourownfood

What is going to happen this Spring with the blossom buds on our fruit trees? This is a Williams pear. At this stage of March last year, the weather turned arctic as the flowers opened, there were no insects to cross-fertilise, and consequently we had very few pears later. Now we’re wondering if there will be a repeat in 2025 as we enter another arctic-cold few days. Fingers crossed by the time the blossom is fully open, the air will be warmer and we will see bees and wasps visiting us.

Harvested most of the carrots today. Leaving the last quarter until we've had some ground frost to see if it really makes them sweeter. Very happy with the results! I especially like the short stubby Oxhella. I think I will try to let some of them go to seed for future seasons.
A little Sunday #aptgarden project fun with a side of clickbaity thumbnail.
Tl/dr A 2 min video about turning an unused #Aerogarden Clone into a #Kratky growing solution.
And yes there are many questionable statements crammed into that 2 minutes...feel free to bring them up.
First go at a pre-cooked apple pie filling pie (with homemade crust, of course) with the first usable apples from my little columnar apple tree. Pretty tasty! #pie #GrowYourOwnFood #baking #FromMyGarden #homemade
Don't toss/compost your homegrown #PepperLeaves. #Harvest them because they're food. They can be used as herbs substitute if you don't have basil or mints. They can be cooked & eaten. They're nutritious, so start eating your pepper leaves!
Mom had told me that in her matriarch village, our relations grew & harvested #peppers & #leaves for many generations. It's used in many different Asian cultures as both food & medicine.

With the season winding down, most tasks no longer have any kind of deadline. I've planted the onions and about a quarter of the garlic. One more bed will need to be made and planted soon. I've harvested more of the neighbor's apples, our last for the year. They are waiting in the kitchen for me now.
I was surprised how much the greenhouse still heats up even this late in the year. With 11 degrees max outside, 38 inside!
How do I manage a large garden with a disability--that's what my newest episode is all about. Having two large gardens is a trial run to see if my body can handle it. So far, I haven’t missed a deadline. I adapt the techniques and tools to what my body can handle, but the most important lessons were on patience, pacing, and perfectionism.

Slugs aren't all bad. Leopard slugs are actually your friend in the garden! Since this does not seem to be public knowledge, here's your #gardening PSA ;)
Leopard slugs don't eat your greens. They eat decaying leaves and the eggs of all the slugs you don't want around. They help keep slugs at bay and clean up your garden. Don't kill them! Move them to your brassica plants instead and make sure they have places to hide when it gets too hot.
New episode out now! August meant a lull in garden tasks, so I dealt with maintenance and figured out how to store water on my plot. The greenhouse needed cleaning, the tomatoes needed pruning, and the neighbor had gifted me some rain barrels.

Harvesting spuds is so much easier when they’ve been grown in a tub. I always miss a few in the veg beds. These are ‘Pink Fir Apple’. Not a bad haul from three tubers.
Harvested the first of the melons today and it was fabulous. Really juicy. This is our first time growing melons vertically in the polytunnel and it's definitely something we'll be doing again next year. #allotment #gardening #allotmentuk #growyourownfood

Edit: the tomatoes are Wisconsin 55 and the beans are Dragon Tongue
