Inter-Tribal Council of the #firstnations Five Tribes (the #Cherokee, #Chickasaw, #Choctaw, #Seminole, and #Muscogee nations) as well as the #Osage Nation Congress—have formally opposed #HB1775. “The vague wording of the law has contributed to fear among school districts and teachers about teaching accurate historical information,” the council wrote last year, “including accurate history of the experiences of Native American peoples in #Oklahoma.”

On that note, State Rep Jacob Rosecrants (D-HD46, which includes Norman) is a former classroom teacher who has introduced a bill to repeal #Oklahoma #HB1775, which bans a nonexistent thing: The teaching of critical race theory in school classrooms.

Rosecrants acknowledges his bill is unlikely to get far in a state legislature that has a very disproportionate GOP majority, but believes as an educator that it's a discussion that needs to be had.

Behooves to remind at this point that Critical Race Theory is an academic discipline not explored at the K-12 level. Most students won't sniff it unless they get to graduate-level or law school. CRT asserts that race is a social construct, and that racism is "baked into" the American legal, civil, and commerce infrastructure.
