Via LA County JCIC: People directly impacted by the recent fires in Los Angeles County may be eligible for new Disaster CalFresh food benefits from the State of California.

A family of four with a monthly income up to $3,529 per month may be eligible to receive a one-time $975 food benefit if you lived or worked in a zip code impacted by the fires on Jan. 7, 2025.

There is, and was, no lightning.

These massive LA County fires were caused by humans. Or a hostile bear dropping flint stones in various locations. If not accidental, we call that arson. Unless it was a bear. Then we call animal control.

Climate change and arson are not mutually exclusive. Especially if one has political motivation to start fires in California during a climate emergency.

It wouldn't be the first time someone stupidly started a brush fire. A teen playing with fireworks started one up here (in a tinder-dry location, of course). The problem I see with the LA County fires being an accident is that they are far apart. Even if the first one was accident or stupidity, what were the others? Given the distance between them and the general direction of the strong winds and gusts, not drifting embers.

There will be a lot of angry people when they get to that stage of grief. I hope authorities realize that and don't overreact. Ha. When have Los Angeles authorities ever overreacted? 🙄
