I've got my share of gripes with the politics of the book (falls awkwardly between liberal and radical) but in terms of helping inspire sympathy towards the plight of immigrants, it was useful to me and might be to others.
Like Parable of the Sower, this is dystopian fiction where we can recognize some people in the real world right now live in exactly the conditions described; the only difference is how many people are in those conditions: a few or a majority.
We are I feel/hope headed towards a time of more massive protests and a true political reckoning, but I hope we reach that point sooner rather than later.
They're not law enforcement officers.
They're thugs for hire.
I'd put good money on the fact that these so-called #ICE people aren't officially trained officers, nowhere near it.

For everybody who's been hoping Anonymous will hack #ICE: they are apparently on the case. GlobalX, the airline they contracted for their illegal human trafficking, has confirmed the hack that was first reported a few days ago.
These fascists are ass clowns. They don't do anything securely, as we know especially from #SignalGate. Anonymous probably has an open goal to bring them to accountability.

If so, maybe you should read the headlines. Scores of legal residents and citizens, as well as undocumented immigrants with no convictions for any crimes, have already been deported, many to gulags in El Salvador, Guantanamo and Africa.
And now, universities are joining the assault on due process and civil liberties. Columbia and Barnard expelled several students, kicked them out of campus housing, stripped away meal tickets that they'd already paid for, all because they happened to be in the library, studying, when protesters took over the library to protest the Genocide in Gaza.

Here is California's "radical lunatic" Governor Gavin Newsom, on his podcast, bragging to fascist conspiracy theorist Charlie Kirk, that “We do work with ICE. … We coordinate with ICE on the deportation, we’ve done that over 10,000 times since I’ve been governor, we’re not denying access, we’re not denying coordination.” This, despite his earlier pledge that California would be a “sanctuary to all who seek it.”
