I've done an impeccable U-turn and downloaded the full proceedings, and what I really would like to know is why it's already the *second* edition!?

Also if you're desperate to know the page numbers of your papers (eg to update CVs) but don't want to download the whole 875MB brick, let me know and I'll be happy to look them up.

looking through the official photo album and, for sure there are some really nice pics, but my goodness some of them are so paparazzi-style it's very creepy

It is the BEST THING EVER to see someone investigate a research question you've always had, but do it better than you could've ever done.

Check out Melanie Weireich and Adrian Simpson's #ICPhS2023 paper, "Changes in parents' phonetic parameters during the first year of a child's life: A comparative study of German and Swedish"

Fascinating correlations, and lack thereof, between femininity self-rating of fathers and mothers, and their f0 production over time.

Titia Bender's #ICPhS2023 plenary talk is intellectually excellent, but coincidentally personal for me. In discussing understudied languages in child language acquisition, she's chosen my husband's language (Akan-Twi in Ghana's Eastern Region) and my like-a-sister friend's language (Saudi Arabic) 🥰🥰

Talk 2 in this session, and so far both presenters have framed social effects as conscious and in contrast to automatic effects 🤦🏻‍♀️ Will all talks in this session do that, I wonder? Stay tuned!

(No shade, btw; I know it's a widespread misunderstanding. So It's just a good reminder for me to talk more about automatic social practice in the chapter I'm currently working on.)

Hoping organizers can figure out the food situation I've asked them about. They are always out of their vegan item by the time I get to the special diet section during breaks, so I'm stuck with whatever I have in my bag...

I am finding #ICPhS2023 unexplicably exhausting. I don't have jet lag, I'm not attending all the sessions, and yet I feel sooo tired! Are large, in person conferences forever changed for me? (For others?) Some people seem genuinely thrilled to be back in person on such a big scale. I'm not upset about it, just drained.

Wow, the poster rooms at are intense! Multitalker babble noise in the extreme, and can barely walk between posters. Exciting to see so many speech people in the same room, but also makes me a bit anxious
