Andrew AbdalianNow that <a href="https://lingo.lol/tags/Omnivore" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#Omnivore</a> has gone the way of many promising startups and been absorbed into another company, I’m taking suggestions for <a href="https://lingo.lol/tags/ReadLater" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#ReadLater</a> apps. <a href="https://lingo.lol/tags/Instapaper" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#Instapaper</a> is the one I started with and spent years with before using Omnivore for the last little bit. I’ve heard good things about <a href="https://lingo.lol/tags/Matter" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#Matter</a> and <a href="https://lingo.lol/tags/Readwise" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#Readwise</a> but haven’t looked at them closely. Then there’s always <a href="https://lingo.lol/tags/Pocket" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#Pocket</a>. I’d like either a really nice web interface, or a good app for at least Mac and iOS. Boost for reach, if you would.

Karl Emil NikkaInstapaper has also added a way to import Omnivore archives (Omnivore is shutting down on November 15th in case you missed it). However, there’s still no way to get your articles out of Instapaper. EquationeerI started to use the <a href="https://social.moltenaether.com/tags/app" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#app</a> <a href="https://social.moltenaether.com/tags/Ivory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Ivory</a> on my phone to check <a href="https://social.moltenaether.com/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Mastodon</a>, and I have to say well worth trying. The in-app ability to automatically save things to <a href="https://social.moltenaether.com/tags/Instapaper" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Instapaper</a> or another service, along with the fact that it lets me look at the federated feed which I do a lot when I’m bored… Good stuff.

My original issue was that I’d dump into <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/Instapaper" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Instapaper</a> as a bucket, then <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/Drafts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Drafts</a> as bucket, then <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/Obsidian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Obsidian</a> as a bucket. One reason for this was reading on the iPad. No easy way to get into Obsidian (I no longer user Obsidian Sync)Another was indecision about linking to an article or copying the text of the article, keeping a record of the link with it.Solutions: 1. Save articles to Instapaper as before 2. Read them on Macbook rather than iPad 3. CTRL-A Instapaper article and paste into new Obsidian note. That gives me nicely formatted text, plus the link to the original article and author's name.

I need to find a way to take notes that works. Tend to save article to Instapaper, read it, save like to <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/drafts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#drafts</a> and then 🤷Can’t be sure if it’s because I’m hoarding, or because my tools aren’t working for me, or because I’m over optimistic about what I’ll write in the future. Hmmm, thinking definitely the latter. When everything seems a good idea the great ideas get buried.
