#Ukraine alleges thousands of instances of Russian #ChemicalWeapons use.

…At least 3 Ukrainian deaths have been tied to chemical weapons use, Brekelmans said, while >2,500 people injured on the battlefield reported chemical weapons-related symptoms to Ukrainian health authorities.

Increased use of chemical weapons by #Russia poses a threat not only to Ukraine but to other countries, #Brekelmans added.

#ZLUDA Making Progress In 2025 On Bringing #CUDA To Non-NVIDIA #GPU
ZLUDA #opensource effort that started half-decade ago as drop-in CUDA implementation for #Intel GPUs and then for several years was funded by ##AMD as a CUDA implementation for #Radeon GPUs atop #ROCm and then open-sourced but then reverted has been continuing to push along a new path since last year. Current take on ZLUDA is a multi-vendor CUDA implementation for non-NVIDIA GPUs for #AI workloads & more.

FreeBSD 14.3 got a greatly improved support for Intel WiFi hardware (iwlwifi driver).

Finally, the AX210 (802.11ac) wifi card in my ThinkPad T480 works perfectly fine without having to rely on the wifibox workarround anymore.

IPv4 works perfectly fine
IPv6 work perfectly fine
Standby and resume woks
Speeds are phenomenal

Also the WiFi configuration is rather easy:

In /etc/rc.conf:
wlans_iwlwifi0="wlan0"
ifconfig_wlan0="WPA SYNCDHCP"
create_args_wlan0="wlanmode sta regdomain ETSI country DE"
ifconfig_wlan0_ipv6="inet6 accept_rtadv"

In /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
eapol_version=2
ap_scan=1
fast_reauth=1

network={
ssid="Hoda-IOT"
scan_ssid=0
psk="my-secure-wifi-key"
priority=10
}

Amazing progress for FreeBSD on laptops :-) I really like it!

#Intel #Xeon 6300 vs. #AMD #EPYC 4005 #SMT#/HT Performance Review
At the same core counts, #Zen5 based #EPYC4005 series was showing great benefit out of SMT than the flagship #Xeon6300
Also fascinating to see was that AMD EPYC 4345P even with SMT disabled was still faster than the Xeon 6369P with its full load-out thanks to the EPYC Grado #CPU supporting AVX-512 and other advantages over the Xeon 6300 series that in turn is largely rehashed from the Xeon #E2400 series.

This gives me hope.

Yutaka Tochigi, the 58-year-old president of the Shibaura Slaughterhouse Union left his job as a computer programmer to spend more time with his children but immediately ran into opposition from his family.

"My father said to me that I might as well be pumping septic tanks. I realised that he meant I was doing a Burakumin job," says Tochigi, who doesn't have Burakumin ancestry.

#Intel's #LunarLake intricacies revealed in new high-resolution die shots
TSMC N3B fabbed Compute Tile hosts four #LionCove-based Performance (P) cores, sharing 12MB of L3 cache, with 2.5MB of private L2 cache per P-core. As opposed to #ArrowLake, the Skymont-based efficiency core cluster (E) doesn't share the same L3 cache pool, but sits on a "Low Power Island" with its own dedicated L2 cache (4MB). Next to E-cores is the NPU for almost 48 TOPS of #AI performance.

#Intel's #ClearLinux Demonstrates Software Optimization Benefits On #AMD #EPYC 9005 Series
Clear #Linux easily took top spot. Clear was 6% faster than Ubuntu 25.04, which was running with the "performance" governor like the rest. Or compared to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, the in-house Intel distribution was 23% faster. Ubuntu and other Linux distributions continue moving performance in right direction but Intel's Clear continues to deliver the fastest out-of-the-box x86_64 Linux.

@jbz >It was Intel grant money, Patterson happily admits, that paid for the Berkeley architects to invent RISC-V in the first place. Without closed source, proprietary Big Tech, there’s no open source, free-for-all Little Tech. Don’t listen to the techno-hippies who claim otherwise; that’s always been the case.

Perhaps. But it doesn't *have* to be that way :) There are alternatives to finance capital. And even it traces much of its sustenance to generous state backing, something China seems to have learned and that the USA seems to have forgotten (if the anemic CHIPS act in the US is anything to go by).
