Nick Byrd, Ph.D.<p>“Tulsi Gabbard, the US director of national intelligence, has fired the two highest-ranking officials at the National Intelligence Council (NIC) just weeks after the council released an assessment that contradicted [the 47th POTUS’s] justification for using the Alien Enemies Act to deport alleged Venezuelan gang members without due process. … The two were fired because of their opposition to the [POTUS], Gabbard’s office said in an email on Wednesday, without offering examples.”</p><p><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/may/14/tuli-gabbard-trump-national-intelligence-firings" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">theguardian.com/us-news/2025/m</span><span class="invisible">ay/14/tuli-gabbard-trump-national-intelligence-firings</span></a></p><p><a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/IntelligenceCommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IntelligenceCommunity</span></a> <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/nationalSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nationalSecurity</span></a> <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/USA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USA</span></a> <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/WhiteHouse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WhiteHouse</span></a></p>

Mike Marsh<p>For folks in the IC:</p><p>Remember that you took an oath to serve the American people and uphold the Constitution. That is where you loyalty lies, not to any one person. You know the IC runs on institutional knowledge, much of which is never written down. You can walk away. You'll know when the time is right, whatever time that is for you. You have unique skills and experience that make you an invaluable employee or entrepreneur, and you absolutely won't have to violate any of your lifelong obligations. You will be OK.</p><p>I know this, because eight years ago I walked away from the DoD/IC world, having flipped from blue to green in 2013, taking a substantial pay cut to land where I wanted to be (my salary is still less than what I was making in 2016). It was one of the best decisions I've made in my life.</p><p>If you're closer to retirement, you can follow long-established tradition and RIP. Hold on to that billet. Get those benefits. All that's really required of you is to breath the Government air.</p><p>For everyone else, remember that you cannot be legally compelled to cooperate with background investigations. The most they can expect is verification of employment, and that's HR's responsibility, not a supervisor's or co-worker's. If they're really insistent on interviewing you, they can get a subpoena.</p><p><a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/Trump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Trump</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/IC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IC</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/IntelligenceCommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IntelligenceCommunity</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/DoD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DoD</span></a></p>

Christina Lekati<p>There has been quite some conversation around this lately. My take: Large Language Models (LLMs) like&nbsp;<a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/ChatGPT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ChatGPT</span></a>&nbsp;cannot be treated as an&nbsp;<a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/OSINT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OSINT</span></a>&nbsp;tool simply because...they do not get the job done. On multiple levels.</p><p>Can they be utilized for 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘳 tasks if operated with an understanding of their capabilities &amp; limitations? Yes.<br>Image analysis for example is currently a pretty interesting (but limited) function.</p><p>Can it be relied on as an independent OSINT tool? Absolutely not.</p><p>LLMs that are asked to pull out data or "intelligence" often provide instead...</p><p>🔹 Incorrect answers that sound plausible (example in images).</p><p>🔹 "Poisoned" data from disinformation, misinformation and influence campaigns. And sometimes heavily biased answers.</p><p>🔹 No sources. For intelligence, professionals need to be able to evaluate the source of data, but also corroborate it through multiple sources. One=none for intelligence analysis. LLMs provide none.</p><p>and a last one...</p><p>What ChatGPT4 does not provide by stating that "it is not available to the public", can instead easily be found via *actual* OSINT Techniques.</p><p>If you are evaluating your security perimeter, it is not recommended to ask an AI-based model...rather, do the actual OSINT work or hire a professional that can thoroughly and reliably discover risky data and vulnerabilities that are publicly available - but shouldn't.</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/intelligencecommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>intelligencecommunity</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/infosec" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>infosec</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/artificialintelligence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artificialintelligence</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/ai" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ai</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/osint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>osint</span></a></p>

Mark Stout<p>Per the Washington Post "Gen. Glen D. VanHerck, who oversees the North American Aerospace Defense Command, told reporters during a news briefing. “I will tell you that we did not detect those [previous Chinese balloons]. And that’s a domain awareness gap that we have to figure out.” ... "VanHerck declined to elaborate, saying only that it was the U.S. <a href="https://mastodon.coffee/tags/IntelligenceCommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IntelligenceCommunity</span></a> that 'made us aware of those balloons' after the fact." Jivo<p>My introduction to Mastodon. I’m a retired software engineer and IT manager that spent 22 years in the <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/IntelligenceCommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IntelligenceCommunity</span></a> and 20 years at <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/PennState" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PennState</span></a>. Over the last two years I’ve lost 90 pounds thanks to <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/Peloton" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Peloton</span></a> and <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/PowerZone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PowerZone</span></a> training. I typically ride 4 days a week in <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/PowerZone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PowerZone</span></a> challenges and <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/strengthtraining" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>strengthtraining</span></a> 3 times a week. I also <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/bicycle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bicycle</span></a> outside in the summer, and <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/golf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>golf</span></a> 3 days a week. At my age, that’s a lot. 😂</p>
