Farooq | فاروقConsidering that both <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/XMPP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#XMPP</a> and <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/Matrix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Matrix</a> re-invented <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/decentralized" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#decentralized</a> communication while <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/email" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#email</a> was already there, makes <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/deltachat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#deltachat</a> more interesting.The fact that DC didn't invent a new protocol for <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/InstantMessaging" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#InstantMessaging</a> and just used the protocol which was already there, and also that how far has it gone, is mind blowing.At first when I was chatting with <a href="https://fosstodon.org/@treefit" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@treefit</a>, I already was developing a Matrix client(<a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/chooj" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#chooj</a>) for <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/KaiOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#KaiOS</a> and it was the only decentralized IM which I was using and investing resources into. I was skeptical but then I thought it would be a good idea to invest into DeltaChat, as well as Matrix. His argument, of course, wasn't good. He was arguing that we need multiple options in the case one of decentralized IMs fail. However this convinced me to give DC a try.But now, I see that DC has very unique advantages no other messenger has. Their moto is "playing the long term" game. Unlike Matrix which suddenly exploded, DC moves very slowly. As an advantage, DC is much more consistent, hassle free, has less bugs(in my experience) and has better UI/UX than many Matrix clients. But it has got several disadvantages. Matrix has tons more features which DC hasn't got or has added them just recently such as editing messages and reactions. And it is not yet suitable for public groups, like the ones we've got in the Matrix network.Overall, if you want secure chat with friends or family or other people you trust, DeltaChat is a very good option and the experience is very good. And I haven't seen something like <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/webxdc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#webxdc</a> in any other IM. However if you want something like <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/Discord" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Discord</a> guilds for a community, Matrix is the way to go.BTW, DC currently lacks funding, thanks to what <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/Trump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Trump</a> did with <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/OpenTechnologyFund" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#OpenTechnologyFund</a>(<a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/OTF" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#OTF</a>). It's utter garbage and I would like to switch to a new one.The one problem is that there's a lot of WhatsApp chats on there that I would like to keep, mostly for sentimental purposes. And since this is a niche OS with a WhatsApp implementation developed specifically for that phone, which lacks all but the most basic features (no WhatsApp web, no calls, no file transfer, and crucially no backups), if I just took the SIM out and stuck it into my new phone, I'd lose all that.Does anyone have experience with that sort of situation, or with KaiOS in general, and could give me some pointers about manually scraping that data off the phone? Imagínense una yo en 2022, recién entrando a la universidad, (disculpen la palabra) apendejada por una crisis identitaria, religiosa y mental, y sufriendo de una adicción al celular que si alguna vez me hubiera drogado, esa droga no me habría provocado tanta adicción como el celular. Perdí las capturas de pantalla, pero cuando revisaba mis stats de bienestar digital mi tiempo promedio mensual mirando la pantalla del teléfono era de 8 horas al día y, en ocasiones, era incluso más. ¡Cuántas cosas habría podido hacer en esas 8 horas diarias! Desde que concienticé mi adicción, y desde que admití que una de las causas principales de mi depresión y falta de salud mental eran las redes sociales (especialmente Discord), decidí abandonar una por una. Desde noviembre eliminé mi cuenta de Instagram, y recién a inicios de este mes abandoné Discord y TikTok, y desde entonces me la he pasado trabajando en lo que me gusta y me interesa, y honestamente me siento muchísimo mejor y con más energía para hacer las cosas; abrí esta cuenta siendo que siempre fue muy raro que yo publicara cosas en español, empecé a subir videos a PeerTube otra vez, reactivé mis proyectos que se estaban quedando estancados, y en general he empezado a ser más productiva e, incluso cuando no soy productiva, más que nunca disfruto mis ratos libres.Por ello, desde hace más o menos un mes, empecé a considerar la idea de comprar uno de los llamados "teléfonos tontos", que no tienen redes sociales y sólo sirven para lo esencial, muy al estilo de los celulares de los 90 y principios de los 2000. Hoy, por fin, me compré uno de esos dispositivos, aunque sí cuidé que al menos tuviera WhatsApp porque, aunque por mí también a esa aplicación la desechaba, aún la requiero por mi universidad. En mercado libre encontré uno con KaiOS que después me enteré que se volvió meme porque lo vendían en los OXXO, y el viernes me llega. ¡Estoy muy emocionada! Mi padre pertenece a la generación de los baby boomers, y mi madre es de los especímenes más antiguos de la generación X, por lo que, aunque sólo tengo 19 años, crecí usando MS-DOS y Windows 98, escuchando música en cassettes, viendo películas en DVD, y usando teléfonos Blackberry y Sony Ericsson, por lo que dificilmente tendré problemas para adaptarme.Ya me imagino llegando a la universidad, presumiendo mi celular del OXXO xD. smegI got a Nokia 2780 Flip phone as our "home phone" for around the house and for my kid to bring with him in situations where we might be separated. It's very satisfying to use! Physical buttons, T9 texting, and it even has a rudimentary Google Maps app. 3 days of battery life, to boot. It runs KaiOS.
