Blanchet: I don’t want Canada to impose a multiculturalism on Quebec.
Really?
Poilievre wants to come for Carney because of parliamentary candidates who’ve stepped out of line. Really?
Poilievre’s answer (paraphrased): If I had security clearance, then I wouldn’t be able to talk about the contents of the security briefings. And I need to be able to tell Canadians what’s really going on
Cool, cool. So you’d rather not know about threats to national security than know but not be able to divulge them? Will you also want to share these secrets as Prime Minister?
Carney’s question is a good one and it’s exactly what it needed to be. Mr Poilievre, why do you refuse to get security clearance?
Poilievre responds that when he was a minister (which he’s been at pains to remind us over and over again was a DECADE ago), he had security clearance, so obviously it’s not a problem.
Cool, cool. So whatever the reason, it’s something more recent.
<cough India cough>
He’s still talking. He’s going to use up the entire 3 minutes without letting Carney respond at all, isn’t he?
Now he’s blaming Carney for inflation in Canada during the pandemic.
Is Poilievre aware of other countries (besides India, obviously)?
Before he lets Carney answer, he rambles on about the cost of living
My dude, Americans fell for that ‘Vote Right for cheap groceries’ shtick. How’s that working out for them?
Poilievre’s question to Carney: After a lost Librral decade of rising crime and a falling economy under America’s thumb, do we really want to elect them to a fourth term?
I don’t know, Mr Poilievre. I kind of expect Carney’s answer to that will be yes.
It’s Poilievre’s turn to ask a question of Carney. But Singh’s already asked his question. What will he ask instead?
Three minutes on any topic. Singh goes first.
In a desperate bid to get Poilievre elected, he decided to tackle Carney’s legacy with Brookfield Asset Management. Repeatedly calls it Brookville.
Mr Singh, go home. It’s time for Heather McPherson.
From what I can tell from the debate, the "leader" of the CPC is really an early AI (before LLMs) set up to spit out a set of memorized slogans. I presume there's an analytics team in the background somewhere gathering like/dislike responses from focus groups in real time, so they can try to figure out which slogan will get them back to the top of the polls and roll that out into ads targeted at a grade 4 education level.
If this was a movie, it would be funny. Instead it's just pathetic. Pathetic on the part of the CPC, and even more so on the part of people who still think this robot is capable of running the country.
Blanchet on how Canada should help in Gaza… They real problem is that Jews in Quebec are ‘harassed by radical Islamists’.
‘The law in Canada says that somebody may invite people to be violent to propose genocide against another people if they can be hidden behind religious motivation.’
I have no idea what he’s trying to say.
Still Poilievre: The real problem *in Gaza* is that after 10 years of Liberal rule with weak borders and of dividing and conquering people, people who move to Canada need to stop caring about their homelands.
First up, Poilievre gets right to the heart of the matter: Canada needs to stop Hamas.
What role should Canada play in Gaza?
Will anyone dare to use the G-word?
Blanchet has been salty at Carney on what has felt like a personal level all the way through this. I think we’ve finally got to the heart of the matter as Blanchet just said Carney has never called him. He’s met with the premiers but not with him.
Seriously, is there anything Canadian oil and gas can’t do? It fixes climate change. It stops Putin in his tracks. It brings world peace.
Will it solve world hunger? Cure cancer? Train my dog?
