:krisigno_averta: GNU M4 CONSIDERED DANGEROUS :krisigno_averta:

Some people find ‘m4’ to be fairly addictive. They first use ‘m4’ for simple problems, then take bigger and bigger challenges, learning how to write complex sets of ‘m4’ macros along the way. Once really addicted, users pursue writing of sophisticated ‘m4’ applications even to solve simple problems, devoting more time debugging their ‘m4’ scripts than doing real work. Beware that ‘m4’ may be dangerous for the health of compulsive programmers.

Amazon finally showed up and I now have all three monitors hooked up to the M4 Mac Mini!

Now I can be a lot more productive. I'm really enjoying this Mac Mini so far and am really glad I was able to get one.

The colors on the monitors are all the same, though it doesn't show that way in the image.

#Apple's #M4 Max is the single-core performance king in #Geekbench 6 — M4 Max beats the Core Ultra 9 285K and Ryzen 9 9950X
The M4 Max handily keeps up even in multi-core at a fraction of the power—beating Intel's Core Ultra 9 285K by around 19% in the single-core category and 16% in the multi-core category. Compared to the Ryzen 9 9950X, the M4 Max showed 18% higher single-core performance and 25% higher multi-core performance.

When #Apple releases a new generation of #hardware, I like to see how the Apple Tax is holding up. The new #Mac #Mini doesn't disappoint - all figures in CDN$.

Upgrade from 24 to 64GB of RAM: $750. Retail price of 64GB of RAM: $250.

Upgr. from tiny 512GB SSD to 8TB: $3000. Retail price of fast 8TB SSD: $900.

Price for maxed-out Mini M4: $6,000 without display, keyboard, mouse, or extra software.

The now-more-mini M4 Mac mini is supposed to be announced this week. I’m curious to see it, though not looking to replace my M1 mini any time soon.

The time for a case shrink is long overdue. I took mine out of its accustomed spot to clean this week because I was doing some desk organizing and cable control, and was reminded just how not-that-mini the current design is.

@verge The recent #M4 iPad Pro single core benchmarks beating the recent #MacBook Pro M3 and even in M2 Max suggest the #iPad could in fact be the future of the #Mac itself. #Apple seems to just be milking the category until they are bold enough to consolidate it into a defacto Mac. Potentially by the end of the decade, I could see a 17 inch iPad/Smart keyboard setup as the default, with iPadOS just being a mode that transparently transforms when you touch the screen or use a pencil.

As a *complete* guess, assuming the implementation is similar to prior devices, I'd expect the #M4 #SME and #SSVE implementations to be 512 bits wide.

It's simultaneously possible that Apple doubled the width relative to previous incarnations, and is shipping a 1024b implementation

While using geekbench as any sort of hardcore data source is a fools errand, a doubling of performance for certain operations that would be compute bound in SME are seeing ~2x uplifts on M4.

Calling it! Between the SDK, Xcode, Geekbench flag detection & more, Apple has officially brought the first Arm Scalable Matrix Extension enabled device to market in the new #M4. With that also comes the move from NEON/ASIMD to the Streaming Scalable Vector Extensions
