Paging the #apple #Mac #Mail experts.

I don't use the Mail app on my Mac for my own day to day email, I use it for about 50 client accounts that I need to monitor. All these accounts are on my main desktop Mac in my office.

I'd like to add them to a #Macbookair for travel.

Is there a way to sync the accounts across iCloud? Or, do they all need to be added manually?

Granted, it was never cheap, but #apple hardware is getting silly money now.

For desktop started out with the #macmini about 20 years ago. Then moved to iMacs. When #applesilicon appeared I moved back to the Mini, as the iMac was too expensive. But even basic Minis' now push 1k.

For portable, the last machine I got was a #macbookair 2017, 800 new. Replacing it with comparable now is close to 1200.

With Apple supporting models for far less time than they used to, it's getting expensive!

Spending an evening with an old computer isn't always fun. It can be hours and hours of installations, downloads and just waiting for stuff to happen.

My 2010 #MacbookAir needed partition resizing (for Haiku, fingers crossed) and then #OpenCoreLegacyPatcher to install #macOS monterey
Avoiding newer macos because of non existing USB1.1 for touchpad/keyboard.

And then Appstore only lets me download latest and not compatible Xcode. Always something...

After 7 years of full and dutiful service - it’s finally time to upgrade from an Intel Mac to an M series one.

I know this generation with the butterfly keyboard got a lot of well deserved guff and mine certainly had issues in the beginning too, but 7 years is an awfully long time and I couldn’t be more satisfied.

I’m also super psyched to finally be running on an ARM Mac! 😄

I started feeling some random nostalgia for my old beloved Late 2014 #MacbookAir (which met an untimely end in 2019).

I started considering getting a #Macbook (if only for nostalgia), and then I remembered a fact that my mind had been repressing:

Macbooks now have NOTCHES.

<Insert incoherent profanity-strewn rant>

How the heck do #Apple designers even look themselves in the mirror anymore?

I just can't with these people.

Woz should T.P.s the mothership campus.

Man... do I like this Macbook Air 11. Probably the best $185 I've spent in some time. Considering it was nearly $1800 taxes in just six+ years ago...

Keyboard's a bit sticky, and I found evidence of cola / coffee spill (wedged off a few keys to clean them), but now that I have Sonoma on it, it's quite nice. Typing (except the few sticky keys) is excellent. Screen takes some getting used to. Will fix rest of the keys tomorrow.

And its SO TINY!!!

As usual: my problems are because I didn't RTFM.

My VMs can boot via MBR and UEFI. But the Macbook Air can only boot via UEFI.

So #NetBSD installer never installed MBR bootloader, of course.

I just needed an EFI partition with the right files. Not a bootloader.

After reading a lot of different docs until 2AM, I understood what I did wrong and tried again. Also learn how to manually install it without the installer. It turns out the sets are just tarballs, so it's very easy to setup partitions and CGD drives, mount them and then decompress/install.

So I'm about to finish the installation of NetBSD on my MacBook air.
