The Australian Government has a central digital records system called My Health Record.

Anyone in the medical system have an intelligible take as to if this is worth the privacy costs to be sharing health info into a central health record.

Im weighing up the benefits of "medical staff being able to access my records in a time of high need" vs future versions of the state using this information to discriminate / make decisions in the background that are not in the individuals benefit.

The development…comes about a week after the group Doctors for #Harris first released the letter, w/a little more than ½ the 448 signatures it has now.

Prosecutors are weighing, among other factors, how long employees were in the files & their intent when they looked at the #MedicalRecords.

Missal’s office found that #veterans#MedicalRecords are relatively easy to log into for #VA #physicians & other personnel in the health system of ~400k employees serving >9M registered veterans, a policy designed to ensure quick access for doctors inside & outside VA in an emergency. …The benefits division, which distributes monthly disability compensation payments to >5M veterans,…limits access to…records to a small number of employees, & fewer still for records of high-profile figures.

#JDVance has said that he received #VA #medical care for a time after he left the Marine Corps. It is unclear whether #TimWalz used the #health system before his election to Congress in 2006, but his #MedicalRecords from the #military are stored in the #VA system.

The breach, which took place in July & August, was discovered in Aug during a #security sweep of VA’s high-profile health accounts, which are periodically monitored by the agency.

Investigators are trying to determine whether #TimWalz or #JDVance’s #health records have been shared as a result of the breach. The motives of those who looked at the info are under investigation, #law enforcement said. Some employees told investigators that they were simply curious to see #Walz & #Vance’s #MedicalRecords, as both nominees’ #military service has faced scrutiny during the presidential campaign.

#VeteransAffairs IG Michael Missal’s office has shared evidence w/federal prosecutors on the actions of several employees in the #health system, including a #physician & a contractor who spent extended time looking at the #MedicalRecords of #JDVance & #TimWalz, raising investigators’ concerns about their motives.

Like the others, the physician & contractor used their #VA computers to get into the records, mostly from their govt offices.

At least a dozen employees at the Dept of #VeteransAffairs improperly accessed the #MedicalRecords of VP nominees #JDVance & #TimWalz this summer, VA investigators found, in a violation of federal #health #privacy #laws that is under #criminal investigation.
