keep negatives away from water! so my habit is, on the way from the back yard to the kitchen, I drop them on my bed. also, here you can see what the print looks like before washing.

I put the print in a pie dish with water, and wiggle it for about 3 mins. the image slowly emerges.

after that I put it in a second wash which has some hydrogen peroxide in it. this makes it instantly intensify. if you don't do this, it will slowly intensify over 24 hours, but why wait? (especially because if it's too light or too dark, you want to retry right away)
