Fire chiefs warn UK is not prepared for climate crisis impacts
The #UK is not prepared for the impact of #ClimateBreakdown, fire chiefs have said, as they called on the government to take urgent action to protect communities.
The National Fire Chiefs Council (#NFCC) said the ability of fire services to tackle #weather-related emergencies was at risk, despite them often being the primary frontline response to major weather events including #flooding, #fires caused by #heatwaves, and #storm-related emergencies, all of which are becoming more common.
The #MetOffice predicts that winters by 2070 will be as much as 4.5C #warmer and 30% #wetter than they were in 1990, while summers may be up to 6C warmer and 60% #drier. The south of England is projected to face temperatures reaching 40C (104F) and #rainfall is expected to increase by a quarter.
Modern weather forecasting is amazing. People will gurn about getting a local shower when the weather report says it’d be dry, but the big picture forecasts a week or 10 days out are remarkably accurate these days.

UK weather: Maps show snow falling over Britain in just days – with a -2C New Year’s chill on the way https://www.byteseu.com/594772/ #christmas #England #Glasgow #GreatBritain #MetOffice #NorthernIreland #Scotland #ScottishWeather #Section:News:UKNews #Snow #UnitedKingdom #Wales #WeatherLatestForecastForTheUK
#Scotland #MetOffice #weather #England #Wales as suspected more or less all of Scotland ,N England and Wales dont get proper weather warnings because the new warnings take into account how many people will be affected and "How unusual is the weather? Is the region affected ‘used to’ this weather?
so snow in the north doesnt get a warning but snow in the south does "that same level of snow in a city further south, where this weather is less common, might get a warning.

The eye of #StormDarragh is now off into the North Sea; #MetOffice suggests that winds are past their peak here (though still strong), and no further rain is predicted. I'm going out to check for damage, and make sure neighbours are safe.

It's shocking a Labour MP is just going along with a concerted conservative media ecosystem attack against the Met Office, while at the same time ignoring their continued acceleration of climate change.
The ruling class are one and the same.
In terms of wind, the worst impacts will be felt on Sat in NW #Wales (50-60mph), especially on #Anglesey and along the coasts (possibly up to 70mph). It will be less windy on Sun but still blustery. #MetOffice and #NaturalResourcesWales have issued Yellow (Be Aware) warnings for Rain/Wind & flooding, respectively. Hunker down and stay safe all; it’s going to be a wild one! 2/2
