Vegetarian diet of #corals explains age-old mystery dating back to #Darwin phys.org/news/2023-08-vegetari

Reef-building corals farm and feed on their photosynthetic symbionts nature.com/articles/s41586-023

"corals farm and feed on their photosynthetic #symbionts#microscopic #algae that live inside their cells. This allows the corals to tap into a large pool of #nutrients that was previously considered unavailable to them."

I decided to try watering my #orchids the way the guides say so I dumped the pot in a container of water.
While they were soaking up the moisture I noticed tiny creatures scuttling about on the water surface…
So I grabbed the #macro lens, as you do 📸😏
The first one was no more than 2mm long and the second was significantly smaller - 1mm or less 🔍
Any ideas what they might be? 🤔🤷‍♂️
