Wilson<p>Here's another little <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/MidCenturyModern" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MidCenturyModern</span></a> furniture project I finished recently. This chair was made by someone called Design Group, Inc, out of Lake Oswego, Oregon. I've not been able to find any info about the maker beyond this piece. But it's quite lovely. I especially like the joinery—each joint feels like a little minimalist composition. Built with quarter-sawn oak, with an oiled finish.</p><p>My contribution here was cleaning up several decades worth of grime and cigarette residue, stripping off the rotted original foam, and reupholstering. The fabric is nothing special, something I found a half bolt of at salvage, but it's a nice match for the color and energy of the chair, if not especially period-appropriate.</p>

NaugaRoto-sphere "Sputnik" sign at Joe's Liquors in Memphis, TN. According to the Roadside Architecture website, "Roto-Sphere signs are perhaps the biggest and most dramatic neon signs ever mass-produced. They were created and produced by Warren Milks from 1960-1971. Milks made approximately 234 of them at his sign shop in Bossier City, LA. Only about 20 Roto-Spheres are left. Of these, only four are fully operational (Memphis, Lakeland, Whiteland, and Salt Lake City). Only 9 are still on public display...Not only does the sign rotate on its pole, but the ball itself is composed of two counter-rotating hemispheres." <br>

Wilson<p>I get most of the furniture I fix up for free, but this is a teak dining table by the Finnish firm Asko that I bought off Craigslist for my birthday last year.</p><p>Within an hour of owning it I destroyed all four legs by driving into a low garage door with the table strapped to my truck. Let's say I was disappointed. Meanwhile, it stayed in the garage for the better part of a year, directly beneath our apartment's shoddily plumbed bathroom. You can imagine where this is headed.</p><p>Anyway, I finally managed to swipe the still-intact legs off of another table that someone else destroyed, and adapted them to fit my special table. I sanded off some of the let's-just-call-it-water damage, did some spot staining, and polished the rest.</p><p>I won't say the hybrid is better than either of the tables that died to give it life, but I'm glad I didn't give up on this beauty.
